From my perspective, I've basically left Reddit. Hypothetically, I 100% agree with you, but from a practical standpoint, I don't really care what happens over there.
Yeah, but if people were intentionally being trolls, it stands to reason that they'll hop on the next available open registration site and begin their shenanigans there, getting us banned too.
From what I've seen, for the most part the KBin magazines have been great, but we've definitely got a few people that I've seen that might intentionally start harassing trans people for instance and if they make lives difficult for the beehaw mods, we might get banned too just by association.
Yeah, that's a bit weird .... kind of cool too, like we're all just part of a big party with no initial way to divide without specifically looking. With that said, the possibilities of duplicates are high and the opportunity for fuckery is even higher, lol
Understood, wasn't trying to get you to doxx your sub or anything, just figured your post was a missed opportunity to plug your magazine, but that makes sense you need too get your ducks in a row first.
One of the eventual goals of kbin is to be compatible with the rest of the fediverse and to "just work" with the rest of it. By way of comparison, Lemmy is basically just a federated Reddit, so, this is actually one of the reasons I chose to go with kbin.
From a practical standpoint, it'll likely be a while before that becomes a reality, but I like that as a goal.
I'd say see if you can search for the instance in the search (once we're 100% federated) and if it doesn't work and it's something you want to participate in, unfortunately, you'll need to go there directly.
Also - Your kbin.social account can only log into kbin.social, you can't use it to log into any other sites (this would include other kbin sites, lemmy sites, mastodon sites, etc...), what you can do is see content from those sites by subscribing to them or on the front page (non-subscribed)
Yeah, the one I joined is 100% clean of that bullshit because they made it very clear in the description that the BS would not be tolerated and they apparently either enforce it accordingly or those folks just never joined because of it.
Your @titaniumfish account is unique to kbin, you can't directly use it elsewhere, so if kbin goes down, you're SOL, BUT, you can always open those other sites up directly and anonymously navigate around.
The federation will allow you to view other federated content through kbin, but, it wouldn't be directly useable without kbin.
WIth Mastadon, you can move your account (well, it's closer to linking it to another one ... I think), but I believe it needs the original server to be online, so, I assume it'll be possible here as well, to at least the same degree, at some point.
KBin is the only site that knows your KBin password, so you won't be able to use it directly to log in elsewhere.
Easiest would be to anonymously visit the other sites and then do a search and subscribe on KBin for the subs you like to bring them into your feed.
I did that to bring my Mastadon stuff in to see if I can use KBin as a pane of glass to see everything or I'm better off just keeping them separate (juries still out, probably need to wait until this server stops getting slammed).
ETA: if someone knows a better way, please correct me! I would love to learn an easier way. So far, I think it's just manual checking and people making lists that they share.
