I think the biggest thing we need to figure out is how to make it sound easier than people say it is. People get too hung up on the technicalities of how the fediverse works, and they never try it out and see that it isn't as confusing as it sounds. Your @titaniumfish account is unique to kbin, you can't directly use it elsewhere, so if kbin goes down, you're SOL, BUT, you can always open those other sites up directly and anonymously navigate around.
The federation will allow you to view other federated content through kbin, but, it wouldn't be directly useable without kbin.
WIth Mastadon, you can move your account (well, it's closer to linking it to another one ... I think), but I believe it needs the original server to be online, so, I assume it'll be possible here as well, to at least the same degree, at some point.

My thoughts on this is that things shouldn't be changed to conform with how Reddit did things.
I saw people saying that default settings need to be changed because that's what Reddit people would expect by default and it's like .... How about no?
I'm part of the migration (Saturday), but I don't want this to become Digg3.0! I want it to be better and its own thing.
Now, those settings I was talking about (basically who/what you follow is shown to others by default), I fully think those settings should be changed by default, but not because that's how reddit did it, but because it's a good idea (imho).
We've also got to keep in mind that KBin is basically a one man operation right now and not a company with 2000 people and expectations need to go through that filter first. This site is fucking amazing with that in mind and I think if you just look at it as Reddit 2.0 it's easy to forget the achievements that Ernest has made.
How are username collisions handled since there is no centeralized userbase for the fediverse. Or is it just not an issue since the magazines of different instances are disjoined? Sorry I'm trying to figure this out as I assume the majority of us are.
KBin is the only site that knows your KBin password, so you won't be able to use it directly to log in elsewhere.
Easiest would be to anonymously visit the other sites and then do a search and subscribe on KBin for the subs you like to bring them into your feed.
I did that to bring my Mastadon stuff in to see if I can use KBin as a pane of glass to see everything or I'm better off just keeping them separate (juries still out, probably need to wait until this server stops getting slammed).
ETA: if someone knows a better way, please correct me! I would love to learn an easier way. So far, I think it's just manual checking and people making lists that they share.
A lot subreddits end their blackout tomorrow. Will you go back to Reddit, or continue with kbin and the Fediverse?
I haven't used Reddit at all since the blackout began. Even if they change course, the Fediverse is growing on me, and I think I'll stay here....
