Apologies if this is a basic question, but I am curious to know what I am missing out on by not having access to private torrents? I have been able to find everything I wanted using public ones.
I see there was some older work on mobile clients but it seems like that's not up to date. Is there anyone else interested in this direction? I feel like it would help make the fediverse feel like a more seamlessly integrated experience....
Huffman said in an interview that he plans to institute rules changes that would allow Reddit users to vote out moderators who have overseen the protest, comparing them to a “landed gentry.”
We should not let people take advantage of the situation to back stab strikers. We should discourage this behavior, and show anyone who does this that it will not be taken kindly....
Perhaps a hyperbolic comparison but you could kinda compare it to the US government forcing out american indians and giving their land for free to white colonists to own.
Hello! You may have noticed that the majority of posts and threads in your feed on Kbin are from within the platform itself. This is because the admin has activated Cloudflare DDoS protection which basically slows down requests to kbin, to prevent the website from experiencing downtime or becoming slow to respond....
I wonder if it would ever be possible to have some kind of federation backchannel where inter-instance messaging goes through some permissioned gateway that could be manually set up to bypass normal auth checks.

Hi all, I'm Trey, he/him. I started using reddit in 2013, very very sad to see the direction and want to help work on alternatives. I'm interested in, among other things, Linux dev, Rust, cryptography, Minecraft, Counter-Strike, heterodox economics, history, and snowboarding. I've been on the Fediverse for ~4 years now, and started my own Mastodon instance at alpines.club, and really optimistic about the space.
I think there's a lot of unseen potential due to how motivated some of the moderators and client developers are, so I collected my thoughts into a longer form article that I would love to have some feedback on: https://tr3y.io/articles/tech/reddit.html (Should I post as a separate thread?)
Getting into /r/CenturyClub was a goal I had when I had first joined way back when, which I guess is probably never going to happen now. Was it very active? What was the discussion like?
Back in 2021 I launched a Masto instance, alpines.club, since I thought I thought winter sports fedi was a gap that could have be filled but I never promoted it very well, thought I'd share now if anyone is interested (alpines.club)
What is the benefit to joining private torrents?
Apologies if this is a basic question, but I am curious to know what I am missing out on by not having access to private torrents? I have been able to find everything I wanted using public ones.
[Question] Anybody working on a GTK/Qt client for Kbin/Lemmy?

And now there are threats to remove moderators. Dying site

Opinion: anyone who takes over a sub reddit because original mods closed it in protest, should face community outrage

Why are you not seeing as many posts from Lemmy communities on Kbin?
