Having joined in 2009, yes, I am a bit heartbroken. There were so many great things about it in those early days. It was a closer knit community, where r/all showed nearly all of the popular posts from all subreddits, so your perspective of the world was challenged. Some really great AMAs, not just from famous people. Secret Santa, witty April Fools gimmicks, annual donorschoose.org events.
I stopped using StumbleUpon when I found Reddit, and I nearly stopped popurls too.
But has others mentioned, as I grew older, the number of new subreddits I would subscribe to dwindled. r/all rarely showed a post from a smaller sub. Something about the community changed too. It became more casual, memey and jokey instead of insightful. In other words, the noise got louder than the signal. So, I mainly just stuck to /r/chess, askhistorians, geopolitics, northcarolina, and worldnews. And I rarely commented.
I was bummed when they forced me to change my own subreddit, but I kept on for many years after. Then came the removal of Secret Santa, then more and more and more profiteering. I finally gave up in March when they took away the simple little i.reddit.com and I started looking for alternatives.
Months later, I'm still heartbroken and a bit bitter. Reddit of old will always have a dear place in my heart, but I've started to make peace with moving on.
One of the things that I think made our exodus site so endearing is that we had a cute logo from the start. In that vein, and with many folks thinking about us collectively calling ourselves kbinauts, I thought to make a little logo with a spaceship. What do ya'll think? Can someone with more skills doctor this up?
Also, for those with their own ideas, feel free to post your own in the comments. Maybe we can settle on one and make it ours. I'd like to start seeing these logos all out in the real world one day.

CIA agents in Havana complaining of mental fog, dizziness, ear pain in 2016. Children in Miami in 1974, hyperventilating and wracked with abdominal pain. A medieval outbreak of the “dancing plague”…
Submission Statement: Foreign Adversaries are Very Unlikely to Blame for the So Called 'Havana Syndrome' that occurred amongst US and Canadian Embassy Staff. The event was more likely to have been caused by the combination of loud crickets and mass hysteria.
The podcast preludes with another even of mass hysteria that happened in the 1970s among school children in Miami and then follows with additional stories of mass hysteria around public health. It also delves into the high risks and public backlash to health experts and companies alike when calling out mass hysteria events while they unfold.
My family have been cord cutters for a while now, but we decided to get a digital antenna for the first time earlier this year. One of the shows I have now been following is a NC specific political panel show called State Lines. I've found it to be a refreshingly civil and informative take on NC politics. While I don't always...
Over the past 5 years, BRKA has beaten the S&P by 30%. Over the past 20 years, it has beaten the S&P by 600%.
I get that past performance isn't an indicator of future success, but are we daft? Why are people encouraged to put their entire portfolio in an S&P 500 index fund?
Reddit refugees assemble!!!
Nothing important here. I just want to see how many people are moving away from Reddit.
for the Reddit refugees, do you also feel a bit heartbroken?
For me it feels like breaking up with someone after many years. At the same time, I feel a bit dirty mentioning the name in the post title.
Kbin.social passes 30k Monthly Active Users
It's still tiny numbers in the scheme of things, but also quite a big number for a site that had ~30 users this time last month....
People from Reddit or redditors, people from Boston are Bostonians, people from Canada are Canadian. What should the people of this site use for a demonym?
I've seen keebinetters, but that feels like trying to say Massachusettsian instead of Bay Stater....

I'm no artist, but I thought Kbin could use a mascot. Shall we all create one together?
