Reminded by a survey from @sinituulia. I need a new backpack. Mostly for running errands around town, going to the supermarket etc... needs to be durable, with an external mesh side pocket for a water bottle. Big enough to also fit a laptop would be good.

What do people recommend?

@quixoticgeek been very happy with my osprey talon (or equivalent for shorter people). Smallest backpack with proper hip band. 3 mesh pockets, inc 2 on the side, hip pockets, two pockets on top, 1 inside 1 outside for easy reach, space for camel bag. No laptop pocket though, got a sleeve for that. Ah and one shoulder strap pocket.

@mishellbaker I think lmfgtfy and the likes are/where toxic as fuck. Even when search was better, knowing how to phrase it, which terms to use was often crucial. Asking people is amazing, it connects.

@hakamadare @mishellbaker Funny, pretty sure I've been doing tech support for about 25 years now[1]? Including helping users in 'internet cafe' style places in the first decade of this century.

If you get questions like "where's the toilet" a lot and it bothers, improve signage.

If you get: "This keeps breaking with this message" a lot, I assume they've done the best they can. If a few searches helped me, I tell which steps I did.

@hakamadare @mishellbaker Also, try standing in front of a class of students saying that and see how you last. Yet students keep asking the same questions. "What is X?", "What does perpendicular mean?". And then it's explained in the book/site right in front of their nose, but probably missed it or didn't have the explanation that works for them.

@hakamadare @mishellbaker Yeah, that's most of my tech support, family, friends etc. all approaching you, because you know 'tech' (whatever that means). Most often spotted use of lmfgtfy is in irc channels on the subject. A setting where you expect people to a) be interested in the subject b) possibly know stuff about it c) my take was also a willingness to help and the reason I at-least linger a bit.

There's no obligation to help or to answer. If you can't or won't, just don't.

@Tusky boosts disabled before updating, boosts enabled after update, so had to deactivate them again.
