Some egregious #AI art is now appearing in figures of peer-reviewed papers. But let’s take a moment to remember that #chemistry table of contents (TOC) graphics have always been completely unhinged!
These are all from the TOC graphics of real peer-reviewed papers in legit journals, most preceding the current AI hype cycle.
@sleepytako I disagree. The chemistry TOC have been a bit wacky even since I was in grad school, 20-something years ago. TOC graphics aren’t meant to convey the actual data, they’re just meant to be attention grabbing and fun.
For some reason, it seems that chemists, more than any other field that I’ve noticed, are a bit overboard on their TOC fun.
For some reason, at least 25 years ago, chemists decided it was OK to be a shit poster in your TOC graphic! 😂
