@reillypascal oh keeping the phone out of the bedroom is a game changer. Especially for night owl types like me that have a hard time falling asleep.
I skipped the retro alarm clock in favor of setting alarms on my watch because of a tip I picked up from a sleep doctor on how to fall back asleep and defeat insomnia in the middle of the night - never look at the time. Something about that triggers exactly the wrong neurons and avoiding it can lull you back to lala land.

Suddenly last week I started getting tons of emails from #Substack for some reason.
Thanks to the #Enshittification of the Internet apparently when a newsletter I once read moved to substack, Substack auto-creates an account for you and start pumping out newsletters. Without consent.
I had to log in, create a profile (thank Artemis only a name was required) and then move into account settings and delete the account.
@The_Icarian I am pretty damn sure it is illegal in Europe to do this btw.
Not that it matters as soon as i figured out what was going on, but the whole idea is so typical the modern Internet: A newsletter from a forum about movies I once read moves to Substack, and automatically they dig thru all the mail addresses and start sending out crap.
I hadn't even visited that page since Frozen came out, I think. I had completely forgotten about the forum at all.

@mkyral@amarok@svetandroida Ono by stačilo udělat cílení podle obsahu stránky, kde se má reklama zobrazit. Když si čtu článek o grilování, tak je jasné, že mě asi budou zajímat produkty na grilování a ne kojenecké potřeby. Jenže snaha je maximalizovat zisk a soukromí uživatelů má nulovou hodnotu, tak se sbírají obrovská množství dat, aby se to posunulo ještě dál.

Every time I see a big mass of letters from someone on social media with "Three Words Are You..." fill in the blank, I always purposely find the least helpful words I can find and post them.

I wrote to the British Columbia Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness today in relation to this news that she was negotiating with Meta to try to get access to Facebook to post emergency updates. How did we allow ourselves to be so beholden to these corporations for basic communication!
Here is my letter:
Dear Minister Ma (EMCR.Minister@gov.bc.ca)
CC: My Local MLA Minister Josie Osborne
I understand and agree with why you feel you must try to get Meta to allow you to post Emergency messages on that platform, especially during the fire season when we all now face so much uncertainty.
However, you must also acknowledge that:
Meta has made it clear its concern is curating its own content and “news” for its own financial benefit separate from any public benefit consideration.
You will never be able to control the algorithm on any Meta platform, so while you may post, you are still never guaranteed that your message can reach 100% of the people 100% of the time.
You as a Minister and as a representative of the Government of British Columbia cannot rely on third parties to get timely messaging out to communities and citizens. You are government, you have the means and responsibility to get the message out directly.
The question is how do you, as government, use social media directly? This has not been possible before, but it is now.
The answer is the Open Social Web. You may cringe at this example (and rightly so), but the pioneer and most famous person using the Open Social Web tools for public communication is Donald Trump with his “truth.social”.
Almost feels like news worth celebrating until you remember the track record of child protection regulations in the UK, a country where the economy is being propped up by pushing junk food and nicotine onto children.

وتحدث براندت في تصريحات عقب المباراة نقلها الموقع الرسمي لدورتموند: “أتطلع بشدة لخوض النهائي، تأهلنا لتجربة جديدة ولكن الأمر لم ينته بعد، وليس من المنطقي خسارة هذه المباراة مرة أخرى”.
وأضاف: “شاهدنا العديد من اللقطات قبل مباراة باريس، واخترنا الاعتماد على الركلات الركنية، كان من الواضح أن ماتس (هوميلز في لقطة الهدف) سيتجه نحو القائم الثاني حيث تواجد الكثير من المساحة هناك، ماتس كان له تأثير هائل ليس فقط بالهدف ولكن بمستواه الدفاعي أيضًا”.
بدوره قال شلوتيربيك، مدافع دورتموند: “من المذهل أن نحافظ على نظافة الشباك مرتين أمام باريس، بالطبع يمكن الحديث عن اصطدام الكرة في القائم والعارضة، ولكن كرة القدم رياضة تعتمد على النتائج”.
وتابع: “قدمنا مستوى دفاعيًا بارزًا على مدار 180 دقيقة وسجلنا أهدافًا من فرص قليلة، بعد التقدم (1-0) كنت أنظر إلى لوحة النتيجة لكن الوقت لم يكن يمر”.
وختم تصريحه: “تعرضنا لهجوم تلو الآخر وكان علينا الدفاع بصورة جيدة، لم يكن بمقدورنا الخروج من منطقة الجزاء وعانينا للشعور بالراحة، قدمنا عملًا رائعًا معًا، ونجح كوبيل في القيام بتصد مذهل في الدقيقة 85، لا يهم كيفية تحقيق الفوز، الأهم هو تحقيقه”.
