@elithebearded@KanaMauna@thomasfuchs FWIW there are vegan marshmallows. They aren't perfect, but they aren't bad. They use agar as the base instead of gelatin.
@mikey@KanaMauna@thomasfuchs I can't say I've tried them. I have had other agar based jellied confections. My impression is agar works but can't get as stiffly gelled as the meat based stuff. It's a small sacrifice overall for avoiding prion diseases.
@elithebearded@KanaMauna@thomasfuchs We use them as we are a vegetarian family. They are fine. They aren't quite the same texture; a little softer and stickier. Also their shelf life is a little short. But they work fine for most purposes you'd want a marshmallow for.
