Out on the ice with a bigger team today, here's a completely accidental drone shot showing our colleagues from the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources deploying some instruments under the sea ice to measure ocean noise and narwhal populations.
DMI and GINR are collaborating in the EU project which this works contributes to. I was flying the drone and doing snow work for DMI that will be used in another EU project @polarRES, and it will probably also be used together with ESA satellite data: a nice example of EU projects working together in the

Gyrfalcon are not always easy to find near their aerie. Here the pair sit 300-400 feet up the cliff. Can you find them?

It was a long way off and cropped heavily. But the Gyrfalcon and ravens were at each other today. Here the Raven has flipped over to meet the Gyr’s attack.

A close up of the Gyrfalcon and Raven. The Raven has flipped over to face the Gyrfalcon. The Gyrfalcon has its talons extended to the Raven’s breast.

April 1 snowpack snow water equivalent as a percent of 1991-2020 median in/around Alaska from ERA5 Land courtesy of ECMWF/Copernicus. Most of Alaska snowpack is near to above normal with a small exception in the central Interior and a larger exception in central and southern Southeast. In Canada, much of northern BC, NW Alberta and western NWT snowpack is far below typical for this point in the season.
