Vacation day birding with warblers, tanagers, and more spring migrators was a fun escape into nature with my husband. I love how the peek of cloudy sky behind this Indigo Bunting creates a full moon effect.
Sunset tonight was at 846pm and that is exactly when the male summer tanager came to the jelly feeder. The house finch also likes jelly, but will visit it only in the early evening. And an unwanted visitor was eyeing the jelly feeder, too. #birds#birding#birdsofmastodon#birdphotography#raccoon#nature#tanager#finch
Two Inca Doves (on the left) and a Ruddy Ground Dove (on the right) share some limb space at the Paton Center near Patagonia, AZ. Moments after this was taken, the Ruddy attacked the Inca Doves. Mean! Then the Ruddy sat on the limb with Inca Dove feathers in its bill.
Been home bound by garden chores but decided to go for a walk yesterday. I went to try something I've wanted to try for a while: catch some purple martins in flight at a martin condo up the street. While martins can turn on a dime their flight patterns back to the condo are similar. All it takes is patience & some luck.
They seemed fine w/ me there so next time I'll try to get closer. More pics to follow.

Down at the Deschutes River today in Central Oregon, I saw no Canada geese until this big placid bend in the river, where we saw about 7, all adults.
Then as we’re standing there hoping the resident trumpeter swan will come back out from the trees on the opposite bank, this couple of adult geese swim out of nowhere with EVERY BABY GOOSE.
I swear somehow all the other geese must have landed this one couple with babysitting because they can’t possibly have TWENTY-TWO GOSLINGS!
As I was driving around Carson Lake, I spotted a Loggerhead Shrike giving a solo performance. So I stopped for awhile to watch them sing and snapped a few pictures.
The look that I got! "No photography during the concert!"
