Quite some people here in the Netherlands have come to believe that it was 'the left' that has been ruling this country for many years now.
In real life, we've had government coalitions led by @minpres Rutte's center-right VVD for the past 14 years.

The new Dutch coalition wants to avoid fossil imports from 'regimes we don't want to be dependent on', but some of its measures (lower energy taxes, less support for EVs and heat pumps) would increase those.

Agreement between right-far-right Dutch coalition parties published now. Thread with some points on climate and energy. These are the plans, but execution will of course be key. Wilders and his PVV are in full climate denial, like much of the EU's far right.

  • Stick to existing agreements, no higher ambitions than EU policy
  • No rules for improving energy efficiency of owner-occupied homes. Obligation (from 2026) to install heat pump on replacing gas-fired heating boiler canceled.
  • End of EV subsidies in 2025.

  • Study how zero-emission zones in cities kan be delayed to create exceptions for entrepreneurs, but creating such zones remains decision of municipality.
  • An end to subsidies for Bio-energy with CCS (for negative emissions) as soon as possible.

  • Scrap the announced additional CO2 tax (for industry)
  • Nuclear power plant in Borssele (1973) to remain open, plans for two new nuclear power plants to be continued, two more to be added (discuss SMRs).
  • Priority for solving grid congestion, with guidance from government.

  • Wind turbines at sea instead of onshore (was already happening), "after considering room for fishery" [could lead to delays]
  • Climate Fund to be used for investments in innovations and green hydrogen

Today, after half a year of talking, we may hear the announcement of a right-far-right government in the Netherlands, led by Wilders' PVV party and supported by @minpres Rutte's VVD, newcomer NSC, and 'farmers party' BBB.

PM Rutte is the leading candidate to become Secretary-general of NATO. His VVD party is now led by Dilan Yesilgöz. The four party leaders will not become ministers themselves.

Complication: The four coalition parties have a comfortable majority in Dutch parliament (house of representatives), but not in the Senate.

Let's hope that the four have agreed to keep supporting Ukraine. Wilders has understood that openly supporting Russia is not very popular atm. He now opposes support with the argument that we need to strengthen our own defense.

There's now an agreement. One of the few measures which has been leaked: raising the speed limit on highways from 100 to 130 km/h.
More emissions, more pollution, more deaths, more injuries, more fossil fuel imports for a minor gain in time for some.

Daughter travels to Bilbao for surfing holiday. Friend takes plane, daughter takes train.
@Eurostar to Paris: Surfboard, no problem.
@TGVINOUI Paris-Biarritz: Surfboard?! Illegal! That'll be €150 fine.

Also TGVINOUI: Bicycle? Yeah, we have a separate section for that. Ticket is €10.
Airline: Surfboard? Sure, that'll be €50.

Free advice for TGV-INOUI: On the TGV Paris-Biarritz, create a separate section for 20-50 surfboards (they take very little space when properly organized) and charge €10 for those too. People have been known to surf in the Biarritz region more often...
