I really appreciate all the kind words of support, sometimes it feels like I only see negative feedback and while I usually take that in good stride and strive to resolve the underlying issues...

I am only human, and sometimes that negative feedback stings more than usual

Rather than letting it get to my head, publicly acknowledging this, and my struggles, are my therapy

I had a pretty rough day and contemplated just giving up on @pixelfed because it seems like I can’t catch a break

But after calming down, I started to remember all the big milestones and the people who believe in our platform and in me

I’m not ready to give up, in fact this was the kick in the ass I needed to get my priorities straight and focus on shipping the app ASAP and also Groups

I’m a few months behind on my NLnet Groups milestone and need the money so that’s my focus after the app

I've been working hard on the @pixelfed mobile app and will be sharing a pre-release APK before I head to bed!

I can't emphasize how better it is, and it will only improve over the summer 😎

The new @pixelfed app is the 4th major rewrite, and I'm glad I waited, because the latest (open source) version is faster, prettier, and more native!

First impressions are everything, so I'm going to get it done right with pixel precision 💅

Sup, Loops and Later are separate apps for a reason, they will eventually be integrated but will remain independent apps/services

I'm building all these services tightly integrated because that simplicity is how you grow and build on the network effect

Block Suggest, a new feature coming to Pixelfed that allows you to suggest to mutual followers to block a specific account when you block them.

Imagine a Mute, Block and Block & Suggest Button

The recipients will get a special notification that explains the suggested you block them with optional context and on the web ui and official app, you will be able to block or ignore with one tap!

So I’m working on a kind of PDS or relay for Pixelfed servers to discover trending content and help fill new instance timelines and profile suggestions!

It will be based on content from and discovered by pixelfed.social, however I’ll be open sourcing the PDS (Pixelfed Discovery Server) so you can run your own for yourself or others

It will be easy and intuitive, I hope to add more features to it later on, lots of potential ✨

While I love being a lone wolf fedi developer, having nobody to discuss development with gets lonely

My partner, friends and family are not devs, so I resort to our discord and matrix channels to excitingly explain my dev related ideas, progress and thoughts, but it's rare to get a reply

Maybe I should settle with AI, I'm not looking for friendship or general convos, rather more technical discussions related to the context

Not being able to explain/share how proud you are of your code sucks

Pixelfed Discovery is about to get supercharged!

Install a new server, and it will fetch trending posts and accounts, populate hashtags and synchronize followers/following lists and counts using our new service!

Already have a server? Opt-in to many discovery feeds, profile and hashtag suggestions and comment/avatar backfilling with fine grained config settings.

We’re also improving hashtag federation and public/guest access, enabling non-users to browse trending posts and hashtags!

The nice thing about the new @pixelfed app is that image aspect ratios are preserved, so you don’t miss any details!

Sometimes they can be taller than your screen, or constrained in a carousel, either way we are adding native pinch to zoom to allow you to quickly zoom in without leaving the screen/feed position you’re on!

I also feel the need to remind people that Pixelfed Groups are an opt-in feature, you will never see group posts on the main timelines (home, network)

Groups will have their own separate feed, and notifications too!

While Groups will support text-only posts, outside of Groups, the existing photo/video attachment requirements for top level posts apply.

Pixelfed remains focused on photo and video sharing, groups just extends this to support other mediums without an account on another platform

There are a lot of new aspects that Groups bring to Pixelfed that are similar to existing microblogging platforms, such as:

• Text only posts
• Quote posts
• Markdown support
• Link cards
• Polls

And more exotic features like:

• Events
• Anonymous Posts (if enabled)
• Multi tenant/dual layer moderation
• Realtime Group Chat

They add significant complexity, but we’re doing this properly, following best practices

It will be worth it, just wait and see 😎

I missed chatting with fellow fediverse developers regarding interop, specifically for our upcoming Groups feature!

It's a nice break from solo dev to be able to chat and catch up with other devs, especially my russian brother from another mother @grishka (maybe he will follow me back one day 👀)

I've also reached out to Lemmy devs and plan to get in touch with kbin/mbin and friendica/hubzilla devs soon.

Thanks to @NGIZero for funding the Pixelfed Groups feature, it will be a game changer!
