On Tuesday, there was a major fire in Alamo Square at the home of Terry Williams and his family, who have been the targets of racial terror and threats for the past few weeks. This fire resulted in the displacement of eight residents and their pets. My office is teaming up with City departments to convene a community meeting to provide updates and to make sure residents are aware of all available resources. In addition, we will provide neighbors with information on how you can help.
Today a horrific fire burned the Williams family home on Grove Street. This comes after weeks of racial terror and threats directed at this family. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
We were honored to present Certificates of Honor to some amazing second graders at Tenderloin Community School in recognition of their advocacy to activate the vacant lot at 600 McAllister. We are impressed that they are engaging in local government at such a young age to make a difference for the community.
Delighted to be visited by USF students and the Coalition on Homelessness to talk a bit about our work in City Hall, enfranchising people experiencing homelessness, and how a resource-rich city like San Francisco could end homelessness right now.
Street sweeping, steam cleaning, graffiti abatement and more! Thanks to the Public Works team for their hard work in the Lower Haight this morning as part of CleanCorridorsSF. CleanCorridorsSF is a special operation that deploys a large contingent of DPW street cleaners to a different neighborhood commercial district every Thursday to power wash and sweep the sidewalks, flush down the roadway and wipe out graffiti.
Started the morning of with a broad coalition of residents, food access organizations, and farmers’ markets at rally and press conference in support of our resolution to save Market Match from state budget cuts. Market Match is a successful dollar-for-dollar matching program that helps low-income residents afford fresh produce at farmers’ markets.
New report: over 10,000 San Francisco households received rent relief totaling $61.2 million dollars through SF’s unprecedented local rent relief program. This shows what happens when we tax the ultra-rich to fund people’s basic needs. I’m incredibly proud of how our city came together to make this happen.

Had a wonderful time at the opening ceremony for the 57th annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown this weekend. We're proud of our Northern California festival, one of the largest cherry blossom festivals outside of Japan, at one of the three remaining Japantowns in the U.S. There are ways to celebrate all week, finishing with the Grand Parade on April 21st. Hope to see you there! 🌸 🌸
The inaugural Pokémon Spring Celebration Day was a huge success! It was terrific seeing fans of all ages spend time in the city's public libraries to make Pikachu ears, trade cards, color, and—of course—read about pokémon with other fans. Thanks to all the organizers for making this happen!
@benjamineskola@deanpreston Yeah. That’s a sign for not actually ”getting it” in the first place. This guy would flip to supporting a fascist in five minutes!
San Francisco's Pokémon Day Spring Celebration is coming up on Saturday, April 13! District 5 will be celebrating at the Main Library and Park Branch. Swing on by for book giveaways, button-making, coloring stations, prizes, Pokémon card giveaways, trading card/game connect zones, and much more! All ages welcome.
I’m thrilled that Bernie Sanders has joined our fight to bring transformational change to San Francisco. We’ve stood up to corporate interests: getting results for affordable housing, tenant protections, and a safe and thriving city. You elected me to fight for change, and we’ve delivered. With your help we’ll win this election for the people, not the powerful. Please donate to my re-election campaign https://action.dean2024.com/donate
