The ironic thing is if Apple did anything else, perhaps a magician covering a box with the stuff with a curtain, then whisking the curtain away to show the iPad, it wouldn't have made such a negative impact, but the destruction of creative stuff just echos a world that is like the first Mac ad, except without someone cool slinging a hammer at a screen... a world Apple has helped make.

QNAP NAS models, if one buys an Intel based one (one that can run amd64), and one that has a HDMI out, can easily have a new OS installed, something like TrueNAS SCALE if there is enough RAM, or just plain old Linux with ZFS and Samba for a small attack surface, although it doesn't have a pretty web UI.

Incredible supply chain attack. Someone faked a hardware wallet that looks and behaves like the genuine article and shipped to purchasers, complete with packaging and holographic seals.

https://www.kaspersky.com/blog/fake-trezor-hardware-crypto-wallet/48155/

The lesson here is NEVER buy your security hardware from anyone except the original seller!

@ceresbzns That is a very clever counterfeit. I had to check my own Model T to make sure the bootloader was a different version (it was), and to update the firmware to the latest universal release, just for safety.

Another thing I'm thankful of is the fact I used a solid app to generate my keys and create the BIP-39 recovery code, and restore from that. I always restore to my hardware devices, to ensure this actually can be done, and it allows me to do a factory reset as well.

Remove "This incident will be reported." from user warnings from "sudo". https://github.com/sudo-project/sudo/commit/6aa320c96a37613663e8de4c275bd6c490466b01 What do you think?

dfloyd888,
@dfloyd888@fosstodon.org avatar

@nixCraft I think the message is useful, if only as a reminder that sudo is for authorized use only.

Update: Many thanks to many wonderful FediFriends for helping me get through a tough and emotionally draining day.

I learned a lot today. Painful lessons, but good ones.

Shalom, all.

Emotionally draining and difficult day. Difficult half decade, really.

Hit me with some dopamine, .

@RL_Dane Sorry to read that. I've been through some ups and downs, and battling norovirus right now. Also, the last season of Sherwood is coming up, which is sad, because I will miss being with normal, rational, and sane people.

A file manager feels like an essential part of an operating system. In a blog where I talk largely about using terminal applications instead of GUIs, you might think I'd spend this article exploring some terminal-based file managers.

Not so. Spare me a moment of your time, friend, and I will endeavour to illuminate why you, master of command-line secrets, have no need for such a petty thing as a "file manager."

@RL_Dane @TT_392 @benjaminhollon @jamesp I still have the THINK Pascal source code for that program. It was going to be an all-in-one utility that when you dropped a file onto it, it automatically figured out which application or DA opened it. So, I called it Dragon Drop.
