I'm editing id3 tags and getting my mp3 library in shape. MY GOD HOW I HAVE MISSED THIS.

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@izzyamar

I may sound like a simp, but editing tags is one thing that makes me miss old iTunes. it was just so easy. Kid3 is ok, and Picard is literally the kitchen sink, but iTunes just took care of it so easily.

What to do if you're 40 and you've realised you can't stand office work at all because you have #ADHD, but the only job experience you have is 13 years of being a software engineer?

Add to that the constraint that you can't go to school to re-educate yourself because school is just office work you don't get paid for?

What kind of job can you even get in that situation? I've been thinking about that for 4 years now and I don't have any good answers. 🤷‍♂️

EDIT: I did not respond well to medical ADHD treatment. Bad side effects. Many people get those, but it's not talked about much.

Q. What treatment options for have you pursued?

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@thor

Hmm, that stinks. Are there no other options?

Re-tooling your entire career when you already have a fairly stable one is not done easily or flippantly. I've tried re-inventing myself a time and a half and it was always harder than I thought.

Does Fedi have any thoughts on ? If so, what is the fediverse thinking?

Thank you in advance!

Seems a bit like a "free speech" alt-fedi.

In the grand scheme of things, probably not that bad. I dunno.

I think @twizzay @twizzay uses it.

This was meant to be a quick-and-dirty post to get myself writing again after a pretty bad month, but I ended up writing for nearly two hours, so... ?!?!?!?!??

QNAP NAS models, if one buys an Intel based one (one that can run amd64), and one that has a HDMI out, can easily have a new OS installed, something like TrueNAS SCALE if there is enough RAM, or just plain old Linux with ZFS and Samba for a small attack surface, although it doesn't have a pretty web UI.

And the instance I first shared it on got lost to time...

Anyway, here's every smartphone I've owned so far, just so I can say I technically beat you to it @robb ;)

This was fun. I need to write one, too.

I can't find it anywhere (even a screenshot), but there was a mobile game I used to love playing circa 2001 called Gladiator. It wasn't a java or BREW game, but rather used the incredibly stripped-down "web browsers" we had back then, "WAP." (NO, NOT THAT FETID SONG.)

If I wanted to start a blog, but had no interest in managing the software of it, which platform should I choose? Honestly been out of the blogging space for so long, I have no idea what the options are outside of managed wordpress.

I'm pretty complexity-averse, and I've had a good time with pelican as my SSG. It's pretty dead simple to set up and use, more so than Hugo, IMHO

WOW. "Taken up farming." That is really something.

I remember someone telling me about farming, and when they were asked, "hey, you're a professional, you have this extensive background, why in the world do you spend so much time just digging into the dirt."

The guy looked up thoughtfully for a moment and replied, "Well, it's cheaper than therapy."

Compare to >5 million SLOC for GtS and >200k SLOC for honk ;) (both written in Go)

DANG, GtS if FIVE MILLION SLOC? What in the world is the mastodon server itself?!?

Wait... mastodon is 185k SLOC of YAML and only 100k SLOC of Ruby?

So GtS is "fatter" than mastodon itself? :o

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@krafter @fedops @amin @mirabilos @polishdub

Ok, my bad.

Looking only at gotosocial/internal, it's 108k SLOC of Go, and a tiny smattering of YAML, JSON, and .md

Looking at mastodon, here are the dirs & SLOC:
6878 db
49k spec
183k config (YAML)
app: 64k SVG, 64k JSON, 38k ruby

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@dheadshot @amin

I didn't count GtS right. See other replies in the thread for the correct count. It's still a few hundred thousand SLOC, IIRC.

Ruby is slower, but I think the code is more concise.

Sounds a little like AI (2001), but absolutely definitely Demolition Man (1993) with Sylvester Stallone, Sandra Bullock, Rob Schneider, and Wesley Snipes.

That movie was LEGENDARY. I still remember seeing it in the theatres when it came out. XD

Yeah, its more of a passive detector.

Another option would be to try a google play app with networking permissions revoked.

That's what I do for the scant few google apps I use, like google/pixel camera and snapseed
