So today as you use the hashtag or post a blog about , take a moment to think about how much of what we can do on and because of the Internet is thanks to women. And we can't wait to see what women do for the Internet next. 💙🌐

Women were integral to many of the foundational aspects of the Internet. From advocating for Internet growth to pioneering the use of ICTs for the empowerment of women around the world, we have a lot to thank the early women of the Internet for.

To improve these numbers and connect more women (and everyone else!) to the Internet, groups of women around the world have taken the initiative to teach digital literacy and grow local connections, like the women of the South American Chaco.

The Internet can be a benefit for democracy—especially when it’s fast and reliable. Let’s dig into how by looking at Kenya.

In their 2022 election, Kenya’s electoral commission used the Internet to digitally transmit election results from more than 46,000 polling stations countrywide to central servers in Nairobi—where they could be verified and officially tallied

We capitalize Internet—every time. But why?

When we write Internet, we’re referring to the globally connected network of networks that we all share.

But when we write internet (lower case), we mean something else. There are other networks that use the same technology.

They can act similar and look similar, but they don’t fully connect to the global, public Internet.

An internet isn’t the Internet.

Today we filed an amicus brief with the US 9th District Court of Appeals explaining our view on how Montana's TikTok ban will lead to how it won't work technically, and how it will be bad for the people of Montana and USA. Read more:

The @EU_Commission is playing politics with the global Internet. It’s time it clearly rejected the idea of “network usage fees” once and for all.

The EC summary of its network usage fees consultation says that "the majority" of respondents were opposed... BUT...

..in fact ** 81% were against ** with only 19% in favor.

We strongly recommend the EC come out with a clear position rejecting the idea of network usage fees.

A major factor in closing the digital divide is creating more reliable Internet access that is affordable. Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) and local traffic are critical to help with this.

Over the past 10 years in the DRC, we can see the dramatic impact that IXPs had on access⬇️
