for filling watering jugs, I'm trying to find some simple float nozzle thingy that would allow a few jugs to be filling from the rain barrel while you are watering plants with one or two (used 1gal milk jugs) but I'm not finding such a thing for less than $32 each fancy fuel nozzle, that seems to have a spring/trigger thing. It's going to fill with algae and get clogged with junk / a pain to clean if it's anything more complicated than a floating ball in a slotted tube

@arstechnica lol at Boeing saying “you can’t expect a program designed like this to succeed” to excuse their failure while SpaceX already succeeded at it.

There are huge structural problems in the US market, stock buybacks and monopolies being two of them. It’s led to industry that has eaten itself and can’t respond to markets.

A US push to use #ethanol as aviation fuel raises major climate concerns

"The IRA offers a tax credit of $1.25 per gallon for SAFs that are 50% lower in #Emissions than standard #JetFuel, [but] A 2022 EPA analysis surveyed the findings from a variety of models that estimate the life-cycle emissions of #corn-based ethanol and found that in seven out of 20 cases, they exceeded 80% of the climate pollution from gasoline and diesel."

@CelloMomOnCars sucks but jets are such a small part of the problem. It focuses on pennies and ignores dollars (cars). I feel like a lot of coverage is just people being upset at something that the wealthy use because it allowed them to ignore their own part in the problem.

"While remote work was rare before the pandemic, today, 28 percent of Americans are working a “hybrid” schedule, going into the office some days, and 13 percent are working remotely full-time.

Switching to remote work instead of going into the office can cut a person’s carbon footprint by 54 percent, according to a study published in the journal PNAS last fall, even when accounting for non-commute travel and residential energy use.."

@CelloMomOnCars this is as much of problem of geography as anything. We’ve built our cities to require massive carbon budgets to operate. Change the zoning and change the world.

International standards to reduce road deaths are public, proven, low-tech, low-cost and could be rapidly deployed nationwide. Our DOTs are decades behind peer nations and tens of thousands of people die and millions are injured every year as a result.

@CelloMomOnCars near the top because your elitist bike lane is causing all the innocent normal Americans in their F-250s to be stuck in traffic and idling for forty minutes as they try to turn into the parking lot across the six lane stroad. You monster.

Corporate crime is notoriously underpoliced and underprosecuted. Mostly, that's because we just choose not to do anything about it. American corporations commit crimes at 20X the rate of real humans, and their crimes are far worse than any crime committed by a human, but they are almost never prosecuted:

@patrickgillam @pluralistic I read an idea once in which caught a crooked cop and strung him up to be taken away by the police just like he does with any other criminal and it turned the cops against him and he had to go back to being a true vigilante. That pissed him off so he started focusing on corruption which ruffled every feather. It also resulted in making Gotham a better place much more than capturing any two bit thugs could have.

    That’s a Batman I’d like to see.

We really need to stop buying into the argument that are "radical" or "destructive". The opposite is true: the nature of the protests have been peaceful and, on the whole, pretty tame.

The idea that, say, sitting on a road is "radical", "extreme" and "criminal" came from a bunch of aligned think tanks, parroted by the media.
    Reject them.

The framing needs to be: Fossil fuel companies are radical, extreme, criminal.

@CelloMomOnCars this has been a problem since “free speech zones” in 2008. You’re allowed to protest as long as no one can see or hear you.
