I picked up two pretty grungy bikes donated to Repeat Boutique several weeks ago. They are good sturdy machines that can provide transportation to someone who shops there for free clothing, household goods, etc. But not in the shape they were in. Both are mountain hybrids with handlebar extensions and rat trap pedals. Lots of mud, 4 flat tires, 1 chain jammed, 4 nonfunctional combo shifter- brake levers, no kickstands. Ugh. So Friday I ⤵️
Yesterday morning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EJZLrkHGMU (Cambridge Bike Bus + Band, me with a photographer sitting backwards on my longtail). The ride was slow and nearly technical, given the low speed, load, kids to not hit, and the parked cars that I managed not to scratch.
Apologies if it comes with advertising, I'm over my weekly upload quota at Vimeo so that will happen next week if I remember.
So, what's the recommended way to transport a fast food order for a family of four by bike?
I mean, my bike has a basket, so that's an easy solve for the food part. But the drinks! What's the recommended way to bike with four large sodas?
I'm tempted to learn basic CAD and 3D print some kind of 4x wide cupholder to hang from the front of the basket. Or two 2x holders to hang from each side.
I remember this ride clearly. It was the beginning of the COVID Era, and I was still working in-person in a customer service role. I was finishing up my degree. I took a ride out to a local state park with some empty roads running through it and did some sightseeing. I had my first "close call" when an oncoming car driver failed to notice me (a bright green cannonball), took a left turn directly in front of me, and stopped in my travel lane when she panicked.
After watching the latest, excellent @notjustbikes video about the introduction of even more 30 km/h streets in Amsterdam, this one by Chris Cox from Brisbane, feels like it could be an addendum.
The Brisbane Times reporter Felicity Caldwell is a legend.
Today we travelled to the #CityOfBath, which is just over an hour away by train, making it suitable for a day trip. We cycled to our #RailwayStation and left our #bikes there. In #Bath, we only used pubic #buses and walked everywhere; we were lucky that although today had been planned well in advance, the weather was wonderful.
I am a very proud parent right now because my kiddo biked herself with me riding nearby to school, locked it herself and then when I came to pickup she wanted to pick the route home — and she picked a decent one and knew where she was going just fine. I wish there were actual bike lanes or trails for more of it because people in cars sometimes behave poorly, but she’s pretty smart and has been walking to/from school fine for a bit. #SeaBikes#bikes
Ray ⬆️ @Razor58 is still in a motel looking for better housing or at least reliable shelter, he asked if there's anyone who could do this kind of trailer build?
He's still in #Amarillo TX for the time being. Would go elsewhere but ideally would like to go to #NC.
Someone posted this picture of Linda Ronstadt on a bike in 1978 and I wondered where the bike shop was, it reminded me of a shop in North Hollywood I don't think is there anymore, at Ventura Place, Ventura and Laurel Canyon maybe?
I don't know why, I'm sure there's a million bike shops that look like that. But now I can't remember the name of it.
Biked a total of 7.5. miles this morning. Biked 4 miles to my uncles (I did get lost so it took longer than it should have), biked 1.5 miles to get food and then another 1.5 to get home. Overall, it was really fun.
I spent quite a bit for 2 sets of tires (interior + exterior) with installation. 940 pesos. Not bad, actually. The pro did everything. I didn't break a sweat. 🤪 #bikes#bicycles#FoldingBike#JapanSurplus#Philippines
Fucking disaster, I'm so spaced out the last few days. Drove off and left the bike in the driveway. Went back and got it, was laughing to myself about mentally going over my checklist and forgetting the bike, and when I got to the trailhead I realized I left my Camelbak on the kitchen counter. No phone, no water.
It was only low 90s though so I just didn't ride that far.
I have a Shimano FC-MT611-1 crankset on my bike. It's time to replace the chainring, but I can't for my life, find any information about any replacement parts at all.
