Ok, why does so many metal band use unreadable fonts for their bandnames?

Looks cool (?) but no one will know or remember your name?

@ambivalena Guess they're going for that electric energized look, maybe?

Finally received the replacement for the replacement axle & installed it on my car today. Now I've got 2 vehicles since I had to get my converted electric motorcycle running so I had wheels while my car was down. It had been so long since I drove my car there were cobwebs between the wheel well & garage floor! I'm finding that people are mechanically challenged nowadays. So far, no one has said, "Oh, what a nice conversion," just, " Cute sticker," not realizing there's no engine on the bike. o_0

elaterite,
@elaterite@fosstodon.org avatar

@mikeday Since there's no engine, there's no gearbox & no clutch. Front & rear brakes are in their OEM configurations. Everything else is factory except I replaced all of the lightbulbs with LEDs & I installed a digital voltmeter in the tachometer housing. Guess I should have gone analog to maintain a classic esthetic, hm...? Nothing in the gas tank. I may make a "glovebox" out of it someday? When I ran Pb-acid batteries there wasn't room for it. Bike looks better with it though.

Mexico. May 2024.

Mexico is struggling amid record-high temperatures and a severe drought. Water is being trucked into service hospitals and essential services.

  • 85% of the country will experience high temps of 40 C (104 F) this week.
  • 1/3 of the country will reach 45C (113 F) or more.
  • 40% of dams are below 20% capacity.
  • Another 40% are between 20–50% capacity.
  • Power blackouts are occurring due to insufficient water to run hydroelectric power generators.
  • By May 9th, nine cities in Mexico had set temperature records (Ciudad clocked out at 47 C (117 F))

In protest of “intolerable” working conditions and lack of water in their barracks, the police themselves manned a protest blockade and blocked traffic.

Meanwhile, in other species, a large number of Howler Monkeys were found dead or dying from dehydration after literally falling out of the trees “like apples” in the Gulf Coast state of Tabasco1.

Sources:

Mexico’s drought, heatwave and water shortage are so bad even police are blocking traffic in protest. AP news.

It’s so hot in Mexico that howler monkeys are falling dead from the trees AP news.

  1. A local biologist attributed the deaths to a combination of factors including high temps, drought, forest fires and logging of their shade and food trees. ↩︎

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is silly. It's an electric car with fake noises & gear changes. Like who's the target market? People who hate EVs? They won't buy one anyway because they're busy eating crayons.
In other news I CANNOT WAIT to take it out this morning and play with it! 😂

One of my favorites. It took about a year before I could make sense of what the hummingbirds were doing. And I suppose it took them a year to be completely fearless when I was around. It finally happened. If there’s something you think you can do, you probably can.

@Jgbird Beautiful photos! Jerome, your hummingbird shots are by far the best I've ever see! I'm always stunned when I see them in my feed. May I ask about your setup? Do you use a fill light or reflector at all?

I switched to Linux a few months ago, I use Linux Mint and even made it a dual boot, but I've literally not had to use windows at all.
https://www.linuxmint.com/

Mint was easy to install and has a very friendly and active support forum

It's super similar to Windows, to the point that if you press the windows button on your keyboard and type "excel" it brings up the open office equivalent

    HAPPY!
Among deers, a fox and grunting wild boars (so I was singing and whistling loud) I wen´t out since I had a feeling that it might be some aurora borealis tonight.

And yes I was right. At first it was very pale but just when I decided to pack my gear and go home I thought I saw some movement that could be a pilar of red light, and there she was, dancing again even though it is very bright at nights where I live now.
I shouted WOHOOO and laughed out loud out of pure joy to thank her 💚 ❤️

The same forest as in the previous image but moved the focus a bit to the right. Above the trees some green aurora borealis is visible even though it is not especially dark at 00:47 a.m. local time, UTC+2. The sky above has some visible stars and some cloud viels and stripes. Just above the horizon to the right some of the sunlight is still visible as a yellow thin stripe and there is a woman standing to the low right side in profile with her arms up in the air out of happiness. She is only visible down to her waist and she is only wearing a t-shirt even though it is just +3ºC.

    McKenzie River Trail: Part 1

I’m hanging out at the famous Blue Pool this morning eating lunch and drying out my tent. It rained a bit while I slept but was only misting by the time I was packing up. I’ve already covered a large portion of the trail last night and this morning. This trail is a gem, I love it out here. I believe the waterfall corridor is next. Just a quick post, more photos to come.
