In my hands is my first iPod. Steve Jobs is smiling at me. Everybody at the Apple Store is smiling.

I take off my Apple Vision. I am back in the retirement home. Nobody has visited me for 12 years. I put it back on.

I hold my iPod. Everybody in the Apple Store is smiling.

If you are on Windows and use their office software, including Teams, and want a little more privacy and use less resources, use the Duckduckgo browser for Windows, is uses the Edge webview engine. So it will work just as well as Edge and all your apps are running in one application. The new outlook and teams are just webapps anyway

@fatboy I do recommend Firefox above everything else, but Microsoft are really malicious towards FF. On teams I get constantly nagged to log in again

Currently trying out in favor of safari/brave.
I quite like it, its fast and not that powerhungry but a few things are missing for me:

  • iOS Version has no support for addons (and I want to sync my stuff to all devices)
  • Cannot use my 2FAs app browser plugin on mac (its safari only)
  • I really like the safari URL bar to quickly go to one of my bookmarks, no option in firefox for that
  • generell no "native look and feel"
  • syncing could be better (takes a lot of time and no open tab)
fatboy,
@fatboy@fosstodon.org avatar

@vordenken Firefox doesn't have addons because Apple forces it to use their webkit rendering engine

fatboy,
@fatboy@fosstodon.org avatar

@vordenken but with adguard one gets pretty good ad blocking. Otherwise try the Orion Browser

Is there a non-systemd distro with a preconfigured i3 desktop?

fatboy,
@fatboy@fosstodon.org avatar

@hydrogen I like Artix but ever since they started using their own repo I stopped using it, the software selection is just too limited?

fatboy,
@fatboy@fosstodon.org avatar

@coffeewasmyidea systemd is a dependency for so many packages that this approach would cause more issues. I would rather install mxlinux and tweak it from there

unixbhaskar, to linuxadmin

Showing off...my browsers are heavily tweaked and minimalist and I do lots of unknown stuff, IOW do not use popular things too much

It's mine, right? :)

@unixbhaskar I love vimb, but webkit browser crashes a lot. I managed to get Sealion and Palemooj behaving like vimb in a way with Dorando Keyconfig

Using nightly from their deb repo instead of the default firefox-esr in ! It seems very nice.

I am not too familiar with the Ubuntu upgrade process, so I would appreciate some advice.

I want to install Ubuntu Sway, but it's based on Ubuntu 23.10. What will the next dist-upgrade be? 24.04? And how reliable is that process? My gut tells me never to upgrade an LTS, rather reinstall?

Thoughts?

Thank You

@adrinux ah yes, I do customise the configs quite a bit, so this is a no go then haha

Interesting day...

I had a Debian 12 install booting in UEFI mode on my main laptop.
Thought I would test Ubuntu Sway on a Live USB, I booted into the Live USB in uefi mode and tested Ubuntu Sway only to find out my UEFI boot partition is broken after restart: "no bootable device found".

Just fucking lovely

fatboy,
@fatboy@fosstodon.org avatar

@adrinux I don't think it was something I did. I think it had something to do with how the distro was configured and when it booted? Maybe that firmware updater or os prober of Ubuntu?

fatboy,
@fatboy@fosstodon.org avatar

@fatboy I managed to fix my install. I used the Boot Repair Tool in MXLinux and it worked! Man, I just love mxlinux :mxlinux: :BlobhajHeart:
