I predict Trump will be found guilty. Then, instead of talking about the win for the rule of law, the focus of ALL the coverage in the MSM will be on the appeal.
It's up to US to promote the win OUTSIDE THE courtroom.

@stux 1. Billionaires' PJs are a negligible contribution to climate change. Aviation is about 2.5% global CO2, PJs are less 1% of aviation.
2. Taylor Swift rarely travelled in that jet. She was concerned that stalkers would harm other people who hired the jet.
3. Taylor Swift more than double offsets her CO2.

It's not their jets, it's their businesses. We really need to focus on a fossil fuel ban not actions of individuals, rich or poor. Most of what we've done so far is pointless.

How are you handling video calls in light of Win 11 Recall / Copilot?

I do not consent to other people randomly recording me. How on earth do I vet everyone's operating systems for work calls?

Right now I am angry & thus not framing the question elegantly. For the love of all that's holy, do not lecture me about asking the wrong question or in the wrong way.

If you have mandatory work video calls, how are you handling this yourself?

@ShaulaEvans The ability to record your screen is not new. Anybody could with VLC on Windows 10/11, if they wanted to, record their screen when they are on a zoom call with you and zoom won't be able to tell you that you are being recorded. Also true on Ubuntu. As far as OS go Windows is very, VERY nosy, indeed it already has extreme monitoring built in - recording the screen being the least of its activities tbh een like this for years now. But you are right, one for IT to consider.

@Baxter Not meaning to detract from your commentary on degradation of free provision in A-NZ at all but just fyi:

Although the exams are often not, you can study a wide range of subjects for free via distance learning, or online using e.g. Coursera and Udemy. Nearly every redbrick gives a way courses for free eg. https://cs50.harvard.edu/x/2024/. As a serial academic myself I have done dozens of engineering and mathematics courses. I've even taken some non-technical courses.

If 16 year olds are old enough to vote they probably ought to be allowed to view unrestricted Twitter and Reddit without an age-gate. Are we really saying 16 year olds can vote and have sex but they can’t look at the interweb?

@JamesBaker Ok yuk* but I think we are saying that they are unrelated. Speaking of children you could extend this to allowing children to vote. Surely if you pay taxes you should have a say in how that money is used. There are many individuals with a mental capacity of a child that are legally allowed to vote. Seems unfair. You should have to pass a test before you are allowed to vote.

Except for some pedo GOP states 16 year olds are minors.*

@darkling @cstross Indeed I wonder what the StackOverflow accepted answer fail rate is. It's quite subjective. Usually the second or third answer on SO is the correct one, the first usually being the product of some diseased brain that doesn't do real work.

I have a theory about why every social media post about either cyclist or biker safety immediately gets swamped by really angry car drivers who want to kill us, and it comes down to ignorance.
Most cyclists and bikers are also car drivers, so we can see both points of view.
Most car drivers are only car drivers, which makes it harder to understand the different points of view. Learning to drive a car should include some time on 2 wheels.

@MartinTaudio @CloudyMrs It missed 'obeying traffic laws', little details like undertaking, running stop signs, using pedestrian crossings and sidewalks. Not a statistic mind you, just what I have observed first hand of people being killed and injured.
