PC fan noise ratings
One thing that really bugs me about PC fan noise ratings is that they aren't standardized....
ADHDefy, Hey #PCBuilders, I have an RTX 2070 Super and since I'm a Linux gamer 98% of the time, I've been thinking about going team red. I found a dude who might be down to trade me a Radeon VII for my 2070S... is that a good deal or a bad deal?
Linux compatibility should be way better, and it seems like performance is comparable, but idk about raytracing performance and I've heard the R VII can be pretty loud.
Opinions? Advice?
mariskus,
mariskus, @wolfshadowheart I managed to fix it :')) the ram wasn't seated properly, it's now working perfectly! I panicked a bit because this was my first time and it was expensive 😅
wolfshadowheart, @mariskus we've all been there! Enjoy!
lambdageek, Can someone explain the appeal of transparent computer cases to me, or cases with windows, or interior RGB lighting?
To me the ideal PC shape is the NeXTcube. Or if you want a splash of color an SGI Octane or something.
Not criticizing your choices, but like… why do you want to see the dust gathering inside your case all the time lit up by garish colors?
what am I missing (other than a sense of fun and whimsy)?

mcc, @lambdageek However if the LEDs had been set to hue cycle, I would lose my mind. Actually maybe they were at some point and I DID turn that off, I don't remember.
lambdageek, @mcc aaah "faint glow coming from inside an unoccupied room" is nightmare fuel to me. Too many 80s horror movies at a too young age, I think...

wolfshadowheart, Just finished moving my partners computer into a new case! Took a bit of patience for some of the weird decisions of the build, like the CPU cooler fan being powered through SATA peripheral molex that have 2-pins splitting off into an unknown adapter.. (powering said CPU cooler).
The HDD seemed to be set into 2 of 6 total cages and it looks like one 2.5" and another I can't identify - maybe some weird SSD? Seriously, no clue, but it was the most difficult part of the move.
Other than that, it was easy breezy :) the old case was a square 2 sided monster that didn't fit the motherboard IO. The name of the case is stickered up - sorry. But I moved it into the Zalman T6 ($44) and it was actually pretty decent. The metal is a bit thin, but not terribly low quality, it was a very pleasant build! The only thing I would warn is USB 3.0 and 2.0 only, and be careful with the PCI slots, the metal frame between them is quite thin and susceptible to being misshapen.
The girlfriend is happy with a shiny new (mostly) dust free (mostly) PC! And now I have an excellent case for a server.... >:)
