Ah, it finally hit me. When some of the folks here seemed to have been perplexed by people wanting to both post publicly, but still have some control over who can read/interact with their posts?

That's robots.txt. We just need a way to set robots.txt for each of our accounts.

I think many/most (?) look at social media accounts and personal websites as two separate things.

But lately I've been thinking about how maybe it helps to look at them as part of the same thing. Web presence?

Some of us share our work/thoughts on a blog, or a website, and some use their social media accounts for that same purpose. Often without their own website.

That's what was great about MySpace, right? All the customization, you pretty much did make a website. With social features!

What prompted this was thinking about the state of alt text on social media.

I think to some people it might feel like "too much" to do "all that work" for a simple social media post.

So I've been playing with this idea of how we might want to focus more on the "blogging" part of "microblogging".

Well, I won't get into all that here, that was just for a bit more context.

And I don't know if anyone else pointed that out before, so feel free to share links/your thoughts.
