Got the K&N air filter in even though we couldn’t for the life of us get the Corbin saddle off. It took a ton of work, but we managed to get the tank off without also taking off the saddle. :blobfoxgoogly:

Just got a nice message from my dad, who I worked on the air filter swap with. :blobfoxhappy:

Just wanted to tell you that you had tenacity and will today, which drove the air cleaner change-up. As you know, I was reluctant to proceed. That was mainly due to my lack of knowledge on the hardware, which made me worry about breaking something by proceeding. Just wanted to let you know that your determination made some success out of what I read as a “no go” situation. Well done, young man! I’m proud of you & that facet of you!

They used to call that grit or true grit!

When we had the air box off, I got some delight from watching the butterfly valves open when I twisted the throttle. Cable throttle! :blobfoxgooglymlem:

Took my CBR to the dealer to have it looked at and we both think the cable housing must've compressed or seated just enough to make the latch not release when turning the key. Also, we both think the shop I bought it from didn't spend enough time setting it up due to both this and other issues that I've seen. :blobfoxgooglycry:

@tk i swear the CBR650R gets shit on by everyone including the dealerships 💢 every time i ask about them (or even the somehow more popular 500) they shoo me off the phone as fast as they can. like?? i'm talking real money here?? sure it's not a literbike but c'mon

tk,
@tk@bbs.kawa-kun.com avatar

@purple They can't keep them in stock here because they're so popular. :blobfoxmlem:

@tk if that were true here they'd be taking my order instead.

because MY GOD did i ever want the 2022 silver w/ neon green highlights CBR500R and that was a one time color afaik

They got the seat off! :blobfoxsurprised:

Turns out the loop that the seat lock hooks into isn't tall enough, the shop had to shim it taller so it would come off easily. It's a wonder I was able to get it to latch in the first place :blobfoxgoogly:

The mechanic who oversaw (did?) the work said he had the same experience on a scooter he had (has?).

When I took my CBR650R to the dealer for this, a couple of the salespeople jokingly asked if they could 3-D copy it. :blobfoxmlem:

tk,
@tk@bbs.kawa-kun.com avatar

@purple Definitely different vibes from the salespeople in your area. :blobfoxupsidedown:

@tk yeah unless it's a KLR650 or American, they don't really give two hoots. KTM is acceptable but you had better be a shithead with it 😈

tk,
@tk@bbs.kawa-kun.com avatar

@purple Sounds like what I'd expect for most of the US. :blobfoxannoyed:

On the note of the KLR650, it's pretty wild that it is the only three of the zombie dinosaurs (KRL650, XR650L, and DR650) to be modernized. I'd expect that more from Honda. :blobfoxgoogly:

When I was at the same dealer, there was a used '99 XR650L out front that looked nearly identical to a brand new of the same model on the showroom floor.

@tk i really think the entire industry has either lost itself or been put on cruise for the past 2 decades. i walk in to a shop and just like you i see the same stuff i saw in the 90's. and that's just the gear; you have to DIG to find gear that doesn't make you look like either a power ranger, pirate, or moto gp champion. that IS getting better, though. gonna hit up the local Honda shop next week and maybe find a new jacket. also my pants need modifying. the list goes on...

OH! now that i've had the KTM 390 for a year... the only thing it really needs is shorty levers. that's it. it's an awesome bike, i know you'd have fun on one for sure!

tk,
@tk@bbs.kawa-kun.com avatar

@purple Kind of reminds me of how today's dirtbikes don't look much different from those in the late '80s. :blobfoxgoogly:

KTM's 390s do look pretty cool today. They've come a long way since the lack of polish on the 690 Duke I had years ago. Also, Husqvarna's 401s. :blobfox:

@tk oh yea the 401... if it weren't naked...

tk,
@tk@bbs.kawa-kun.com avatar

Is the RC 390 @purple ‘s next bike? :blobfoxthinkowo:

purple,
@purple@nya.social avatar

@tk naaaaahhh we already have a sport bike ^_^

kinda feeling a touring bike...

not that the RC390 is ugly or anything, it's beautiful!

purple,
@purple@nya.social avatar

@tk well the 390 is a modern design. 2020 was their first year. the electronics package is what sold it to me.
