Hi, I'm Saki a php-src contributer.

I mainly want to learn more about PDO, but recently I've been involved a lot with FP.

I'm thinking of issuing an RFC, but before that I want to eliminate the bugs in PDO, so I'm thinking about a lot of things right now.

Nice to meet you!

@saki What will your RFC be about?

@saki@phpc.social avatar

@timwolla

Hi Tim.
I'm thinking of deprecating PDO::ERRMODE_WARNING and removing it in 9.x.

I talked about this a little while ago on the internal mailing list, but the thread on http://externals.io stopped displaying in the middle, and more than half of what was being discussed was not displayed.
(This is due to an iPhone bug.)

timwolla,
@timwolla@phpc.social avatar

@saki Ah, yes. I've seen that thread, but it wasn't that interesting to me, because it would not affect me 😄

PS: Make sure to select the correct language for your Mastodon posts. You've selected Japanese, but the contents are English.

@timwolla
Is it now set to English?

I think It seems that very few people are affected by PDO::ERRMODE_WARNING.
For me, finding someone like that can be as difficult as finding contact lenses on the beach….

timwolla,
@timwolla@phpc.social avatar

@saki Yes, it's now set to English.

And yeah, cleanup of old stuff is important. It just wasn't interesting enough for me, so I spent my time with something else.

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@timwolla
Thank you!

Yeah, it's certainly not exciting in the least :)

timwolla,
@timwolla@phpc.social avatar

@saki That one was marked Japanese again. I believe if your interface language is Japanese, you have to set it to English for every (English) post 🤔

Unfortunately it's not really easy to see when creating a post, I primarily notice because it offers me to translate the post.

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@timwolla There is a preference for that, "Posting Language" at https://phpc.social/settings/preferences/other

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@timwolla

I tried changing the interface language. The default is still Japanese, but it may just not be reflected in the app, so I'll give it some time.

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@saki @timwolla It is on the "Other" tab in preferences on the website.

I am not sure whether your app (Mastodon for iOS) reads this setting though, and might not support a separate posting language.

It works on the web though. My posts are in English, and marked as such, but my interface is in Dutch (because, why not).

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@derickr @timwolla

I was able to find the settings. I see, the default is the same language as the interface.

Thank you!

I'll take a look to see if it works as expected!

@saki I once lost a contact lens on a ski slope and I work on weird legacy code. I know what you mean in both cases :)

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@afilina
It's a rare experience.

Maintaining legacy code is difficult, but it's very important for "people looking for contact lenses on the ski slopes" :)
