@evelynefoerster Here’s proof that @evelynefoerster really kept her promise. #Muffins in the making and the first batch of finished ones. Inside fluffy and fruity, while the outside is just a little bit crispy.
@juengling@paulfoerster
Muffins come with their own mysterious time limit! They must be the James Bonds of baked goods—here one moment, gone the next! 🧁🕵️♂️ Must let them go...
@evelynefoerster So, you guys have voted what #Muffins type my wonderful wife @evelynefoerster create today for us. I must commend you on your choice and me on having good muffins again. 👍
@evelynefoerster
Je nachdem, was man so hat. Wie immer in solchen Fällen. Als ich noch Kind war, galten Vanille und Kakao noch als sehr exotisch, zumindest in meinem Umfeld.
@evelynefoerster
Mit meinem Alter hat das weniger zu tun, viel mehr mit Umfeld. Was heute "Tagesmutter" heißt, hieß früher "Tante" und die meine war noch aus dem 19 Jh.
@evelynefoerster
Ich bin überrascht, dass nicht die American Cookies führen, aber Blueberry Muffin ist doch ein Klassiker. Na ja, dann backe ich eben die 🍓 Muffins 😜
@tomarsch
Im Moment haben wohl die Blaubeermuffins den Wettbewerb gewonnen! Die Amerikanischen Cookies müssen wohl ein bisschen in die Trainingspause. Mach dich bereit für den großen Back-Olymp! 🥇🫐🧁
@SteveClough
Absolutely! These cookies are so unique, they’re practically avant-garde in the cookie world. Don’t worry, I’ll send them with a certificate of exclusivity! 😂🍪
Really? I honestly would have thought the opposite. A friend, who is a chef, told me just last weekend that American jam has a ton more sugar than UK jam. Interesting
@evelynefoerster@Mary625@Uilebheist My man is Bri-ish. Took not even 2 months of him being in the USA for his entire body habitus to get biggerus. It was a complete adjustment for him. We've enjoyed our tubby moments together and he looks pretty spot on now. I mean, I kinda like him. So he has that going for him. :)
@mambearpnw@Mary625@Uilebheist
Sounds like your man had a crash course in American portions! It's great that you both found enjoyment in those moments. It seems like he's settling in just fine. After all, a bit of extra love handles never hurt anyone! 😄💕 Just make sure that it stays good and that no health problems arise.🥰
@evelynefoerster@Mary625@Uilebheist Our first 30 days together began in NYC and we drove to SoCal then back to NYC. A different city every night, thousands of miles in a crash course of a relationship, and all restaurant food to boot. Incredible time. But yeah, not a bunch of salads...or portion control, in part because I wasn't eating much so he finished my meals too. To be fair, he came to me a hungry college boy. And I fed him proper. <3
@Mary625@Uilebheist
The sweet secrets of jams! It seems like even across the ocean, they like their preserves with a different level of sweetness. Quite the jam-mystery, isn’t it? 🍓🇺🇸🍓🇬🇧
I understand it has something to do with what breaks down the natural sugar in the fruit. Though, I've never made it. I love it no matter how it's made. But being diabetic, it's one thing I've pretty much completely cut out of my diet
@Uilebheist@Mary625
WOW! 105...very old! Just imagine all of what she experienced and all of the inventions! Amazing! My Granny died at the age of 103 🥰 Still miss her after all these years! And yes, if knowing that in the family there are cases, makes sense to get ahead of everything.
@Mary625@Uilebheist
Well 97 is also a very long time - I wished my granny would have talked more about her life, but it is how it is. I always listen up when my aunts and uncles talk about past times
My grandmother was born on a farm in Ireland in 1890. She was 73 when I was born. I had to do a report when I was in 7th grade about the oldest person I knew. I had a tape recording and a little book about her life and all the changes she saw. Unfortunately, it was lost in a move. But I remember a great deal of it
If she wasn't on insulin, probably type 2. If she was, still could be either. If it's type 2, it's more likely than type 1 that you would have it. Weird genetics thing with diabetes
@evelynefoerster@Mary625@Uilebheist My bio mom raised me that bad people live a long time. It's the good ones that die young. My maternal grandhole died at 85 of diabeetus, so turns out my mother, now pushing 80 instead of daisies was right. Me? I ain't gonna make it to 50. I'm too darn good of a person at the core. Oh well. I'll at least have a good run til then. 👊
@Mary625@evelynefoerster No she wasn't on insulin, and was diagnosed quite late (like over the age of 50). That's way I think type 2. Can't ask her now of course.
Probably type 2 without insulin. Turns out age of diagnosis is not as clear cut for type anymore. Lots of people misdiagnosed because of that. I wasn't told I was diabetic until I was in my early 40s but was diagnosed a few years earlier (terrible doc). I finally got a good Endo a then it turned out I'm type 1. Now, I'm both 1 & 2. Fun stuff.
@Mary625@Uilebheist
Okay, didn't know that - I've got a good doc and I'm holding on to him, it's hard to find someone good nowadays. It's seems you have it under control, I hope it stays that way.
@Mary625@Uilebheist
Well, butter my biscuit! It's like the superhero of the kitchen, swooping in to save the day with its creamy, buttery goodness! 🦸♂️🧈🥞 😂
@Mary625@Uilebheist
Your Dad was clearly a visionary in the world of buttered creations! It’s like he had a PhD in Butterology. Who needs ordinary sandwiches when you can have buttery masterpieces? 🥪🧈👨🍳
@Mary625@evelynefoerster Now wait...
When I was at university in Italy somebody proposed a sugar sandwich.
That means: you butter two slices of bread, add sugar to both, join the two and eat.
And no, he wasn't American. Was definitely Italian.
(The sandwich was actually quite nice, although too sweet for me)
@Uilebheist@Mary625
That’s certainly a sugar rush between slices! It sounds like a sweet spin on the classic sandwich. Leave it to creative minds to whip up something unexpectedly tasty! 🥪🍬🇮🇹
My father was stationed in Europe during the Korean war. Mostly Germany but he did something on the trains so he was all over. Maybe he picked it up there. Never asked him about it. It was just something he did.
But I loved when he made our lunch because it had butter on one side and Mayo on the other. And his peanut butter and jelly had butter too. The best!
@Mary625@Uilebheist
I remember seeing a video where an American girl was very excited to adding butter on her sandwich 😂 She repeatedly mentioned that it seems to be gross but it's fantastic! 😂
@Mary625@Uilebheist
I used all of my peanut butter - I'm not really a fan, probably because I didn't grow up with these sandwiches or peanut butter. At least I tried to check if its something I'd enjoy...
@evelynefoerster@Uilebheist@Mary625 I think it's more a West Coast term, and possibly of Valley Girl origins. I've used it as a teen in British Columbia.
@carolannie@evelynefoerster American Cookies are the definition of cookies. You say "American Cookies" , you mean cookies. Anything else is just sort-of-like-cookies-but-not-really.
@hakona@carolannie@book@Mary625
Many options concerning cookies...some like them chewy, some harder, some softer...with peanut butter I suppose is more American than English...if used...or not?
@evelynefoerster@hakona@book@Mary625
Americans seem to like their cookies soft and what I think of as gooey. I agree, chewy is better. However, crisp cookies are well liked too, which I would suppose fall into the "biscuit" category. Etymologically, I wonder how cookies came to be called biscuits, which means cooked twice, as are biscotti (which are called, hideously, biscottis in the plural here in the US)
But I digress
@carolannie@hakona@book@Mary625
You’ve got a point there! The whole cookie-biscuit-biscotti situation can be a bit perplexing, especially with those curious plural forms. It’s a linguistic conundrum worth pondering over a plate of chewy cookies! 🍪😄
