@NormanDunbar and yet bizarrely there are hundreds of people driving there to look at it. I’d have thought dense co2 emissions and the possibility of a pompeii-style pyroclastic flow would make that somewhat… hazardous.
But then, I’m no vulcanologist - I just know that a 4km long portal to hell is probably not a good thing to be around :)
@choobs Pyroclastic flow happens, I was taught, when ash is spewed high up in the sky then falls back down. It then runs down the slopes. Vesuvius is a high volcano so this happend. Iceland, and Hawaii, tend to have lava fountain style eruptions. Instead of a cone shaped mountain they have it spread out. Plus, it's lava here not ash.
