I would have guessed most celebrities would end up on mastodon.social, so figured there might have been a reason for the choice (not to imply there aren’t any good reasons).

Ha ... fair ... as a minor mastodon/fediverse nerd (ie, someone that uses mastodon to talk about mastodon), I don't think anyone really knows what's going on here (part of the fun maybe?).
