I just spent the last hour seriously considering buying a violin and trying to teach myself to play. Then I realized I’d have to learn to read music which led me to think, “As if you have any idea what note to play by ear.”
I think it will need to remain a nice little fantasy.
One of these days I will end up buying one, but the likelihood of me ever learning to play it properly seem rather slim. I’m way too lazy.
@davidtoddmccarty I've just been reading this book by a Brit who taught himself to (barely) play the violin, so he could emulate an earlier traveller who walked across Spain in 1935. Seems like it's much harder to learn to play the violin well than I had imagined. Good read: https://amzn.to/3HbRadA
@davidtoddmccarty I enjoyed it. I'd just read his two-part book about cycling around the world in 2001-2005, so it was interesting to read something set when he was 15 years older and trying to reconcile his adventurer reputation with being a middle-aged dad.
