@jacquiharper@Bwheatnyc It is sad to see so many in Iowa supporting racists, criminals, insurrectionists, and bigots (Trump and DeSantis).
While turnout at the caucuses may not be as high as its population, it is representative of the culture in Iowa. I feel for any democrat, centrist, socialist, or liberal living in that state as in other Red states.
On the one hand, if they leave the state, that strengthens the far rights power. If they remain in the state, they are in the fight and potentially in harm's way. Doing nothing to fight the far right's power in the state makes them complicit. I left Texas some years ago but remain politically active in a purple state that has become mostly blue with regards to federal elections. It's hard either way.
Caucuses IMO violate the premise of voter anonymity and subject voters to peer pressure, employment repercussions, etc. They should have been eliminated years ago and primaries put in place by all of the parties. However, this is a party issue because these are not general elections. Democrats have also failed to remove Iowa as a first state in the primary season and in the form of caucuses.
It does help guide me in deciding where I travel and spend money. The only effective boycotts in a capitalist nation are economic. I use the HRC data as a guide but if I see a provider of goods or services is in a Red state, I direct my money elsewhere.
