First: i like chaos.social a LOT.
Most of my friends are there and i really enjoy the overall culture and welcoming and inclusive ways of approaching each other. @ordnung does a really good job at enforcing the rules they set up for their house and i have deep respect for their voluntary work of running and moderating the instance.

2 days ago I had conversation with a user form another instance [0].
The person posted about being in a world of pain on windows filesystems and VScode and that "they" should include a warning.
I came up with a snarky warning making fun of windows in general.
Unfortunately the person that posted the original post tought i was addressing them directly and replied:
"gee I wonder why everyone thinks Linux users are pretentious assholes"
Ok?
I can take that with a smile and not worry too much since its all fun and games right?
No.
Replying: "and i think what you are referring to as “linux" means the GNU operating system with a linux kernel.
GNU/Linux." triggered them even more.
They came up with a snarky reply and wrote:
"..also you might wanna read up on your instance's rules, specifically the "Best practices" section"
So I went to read the rules wondering what they were referring too and, lo and behold:
"Don’t be a reply guy – uninvited comments about another user’s personal choices, lifestyle or family are strongly discouraged and may be considered harassment." [1]
What IS a reply guy?
A person replying to a post on social media that gives unwelcome feedback?
Ok?
But i thought social media was about being social and posting things so people can interact?
That person decided to mark my post as a violation against chaos.social rules and soon i found this in my inbox:

since this was the third time the interpretation of rules according to @ordnung and the ideas of me showed to be incompatible i decided to follow their advice and switch instances.
Is 23.social the right instance for me?
I don't know!
I felt really good at chaos.social but i CAN not meet the expectations of those responsible for running the instance.
Not because i don't WANT to.
I just cant.
The concept of a "reply-guy" is a burning dumpster fire, just waiting to be abused.
@overflo Danke für den Thread und den Link auf den Thread, der das ausgelöst hat. Ich würde da aber tendenziell der ordnung zustimmen, das kam mir schon etwas arg unangebracht vor. Aber wie dem auch sei, hoffentlich findest du dich auf der neuen Instanz gut ein!

honestly: ja ok.
wenn mir die menschen nahelegen ich soll die regeln lesen und einhalten, oder gehen dann tu ich das.
ich KANN diese regel nicht einhalten da sie nicht ausdefiniert ist.
@overflo Im Gegensatz zu den klar ausdifferenzierten Regeln auf 23.social? Oder ists das fehlende enforcement dort? Not judging, just asking rhethorical question.
