I just hope my software will run under Windows 7. Mr. media creation tools says no to upgrading to Windows 10. I’m going to be running like this for a week at the maximum. I shouldn’t end up with with any viruses, keyword shouldn’t.

Bri,

@evilcookies98 This may help you on Windows 7. https://github.com/vxiiduu/VxKex

@Bri thank you. Hopefully I won't be using it for long. I do miss the sound effects though. Too bad I can't make Windows 7 and Windows XP sound schemes for 11.

cordova5029,

@evilcookies98 @Bri why can't you? all you need to do is reassign wave files.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@cordova5029 @Bri someone told me all of the sound files were encrypted.

cordova5029,

@evilcookies98 @Bri dood, they are totally not encrypted

Bri,

@evilcookies98 @cordova5029 lol what? They're not.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@Bri @cordova5029 oh goody. I like the older windows sounds so much better than the modern ones. I know I can’t change the start up tone, but all of the other ones are probably fair game.

Bri,

@evilcookies98 @cordova5029 even that you can change, with enough foolery.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@cordova5029 @Bri don’t tell me that because I’ll spend the next several days learning how to do it. I know it used to be laughably easy. I had Windows XP sounding like 95.

Jonathan,

@Bri @evilcookies98 Ooh. This is pretty cool.

cordova5029,

@Jonathan @Bri @evilcookies98 as someone still? yes don't shoot me everyone, on win7 because I can't justify buying a new machine. Yes I know security vulnerabilities and everything, but I can attest to vxKex being a wicked piece of kit.

seedy,

@cordova5029 @Jonathan @Bri @evilcookies98 I won't shoot you. Truth is you're still vulnerable no matter how tight your security is, and you're not safe from anything in this life. And yes, VX is awesome.

Bri,

@seedy @cordova5029 @Jonathan @evilcookies98 also, in case you were wondering Seedy, because I do remember you were telling me how TC errored a whole bunch when you ran it with kex, the fix for this is to turn off the hing that makes kex do things with child processes or somehing like that, I forget the exact name of the check box now.

cordova5029,

@Bri @seedy @Jonathan @evilcookies98 tit's a really obviosu checkbox when you're in the making it do tab. It's pretty much what Bri said. I canot quote it, but if I need need to I can go look at the exact wording if it's extremely necessary. :)

seedy,

@cordova5029 @Bri @Jonathan @evilcookies98 I believe I turned off child processes and it still spewed errors.

Bri,

@seedy @cordova5029 @Jonathan @evilcookies98 Interesting! When Xander turned that off, it behaved as if it were running on a supported OS.

seedy,

@Bri @cordova5029 @Jonathan @evilcookies98 I'll have to fire up a Win7 VM again and try it. Is there a higher version of Kex?

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@Jonathan @cordova5029 @seedy @Bri too bad I can’t loan you my installation DVD. That’s probably illegal anyway. Then again, it was probably also illegal for my friends to be passing around the talking installer, but those got discontinued ages ago so how else was I supposed to get it?

Bri,

@evilcookies98 @Jonathan @cordova5029 @seedy oh, which talking installer did you use? I still have TWPE mega around here somewhere.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@seedy @cordova5029 @Jonathan @Bri i’m not exactly sure. I just know it actually worked. Whatever it was, Boot Camp on this computer actually recognized it. None of my other computers would recognize them on USB.

Bri,

@evilcookies98 @seedy @cordova5029 @Jonathan Did it boot up into a windows desktop, or did it boot into a setup wizard thingy thing?

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@cordova5029 @seedy @Bri @Jonathan I think it took me straight into windows set up. Well, it took me to some kind of set up. If it’s something that hasn’t actually been discontinued and I shouldn’t have had. I will feel like utter garbage. I started asking my friends because I couldn’t find any.

Bri,

@evilcookies98 @cordova5029 @seedy @Jonathan Oh no. These windows PE images are perfectly valid, legal, able to be redistributed, etc. You're all good

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@Jonathan @Bri @cordova5029 @seedy I think I shouted loud enough for the entire neighborhood to hear me when the USB sound card approach actually works last night. Only real problem I had was the windows decided to give me a lovely blue screen after it got done preparing my desktop.

Bri,

@evilcookies98 @Jonathan @cordova5029 @seedy Oooof! Yeah, x64 hardware from 2009 will do that

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@Jonathan @cordova5029 @Bri @seedy I didn’t think I was ever going to get out of the recovery menu because I had to shut it down the nuts so nice way. It was a solid blue screen and nothing was talking to me. Now, if somebody out there could just make it so we could use the startup repair thingy, we’d be golden.

Bri,

@evilcookies98 @Jonathan @cordova5029 @seedy You can in Windows 11.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@Bri @seedy @Jonathan @cordova5029 I may have to put myself into that menu when I get the new computer just to see what it looks like. Better to get familiar with it while I don’t actually need it.

tspivey,

@evilcookies98 Use the media creation tool to download the iso. Run setup from there.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@tspivey it won’t run. It just says it doesn’t know what went wrong. I’ve checked their specs page and my computer looks like it should meet the requirements.

JamminJerry,
@JamminJerry@mastodon.stickbear.me avatar

@evilcookies98 @tspivey I have a windows 10 ISO, if that would help you out.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@JamminJerry @tspivey I think I have one somewhere, but I don’t know if I can get straight to set up just from opening it, and starting that one from a DVD won’t do any good because I don’t have a talking thingy for that.

tspivey,

@evilcookies98 @JamminJerry You should be able to mount the iso and run setup. It'll copy what it needs to your hard drive and work.

JamminJerry,
@JamminJerry@mastodon.stickbear.me avatar

@evilcookies98 @tspivey when I say run it.l I mean run the setup that would be on the thumb drive, and do it from with in windows? as long as you are doing an upgrade, it should work.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@JamminJerry @tspivey hopefully it doesn’t zap my Boot Camp petition with an ugly error message. Even if it does, I do have the DVD and I’m sure the audio will work twice.
