A reminder that if you're here, you're seeing a flood of people doing their thing and doing it well, and it can be easy to feel like you're falling behind or not doing enough.
This is a digital illusion.
You are enough. Your pace is enough. Your life need not be measured against others.
@mttaggart following tags like #askFedi and #mastoHelp is also an excellent way to see the part of the Fediverse were people more openly admit to having no idea what they're doing, that helps keep things in perspective.
@mttaggart Saw this the other day and boosted it because I need to hear it, and so will others. Boosted it again today, because I need to be reminded of it, and maybe some more people will see it.
@mttaggart Thank you for this. Sometimes fedi feels like moving from Albuquerque to Seattle in 1999 - and I'm trying to prove to people more elite than me that I'm enculturated and sophisticated enough to deserve to be here. I'm trying harder to make my posts about things I'm into / believe / experience / think about.
This is one of the few sites where I make the effort to follow up some of the fluff posts with what’s really going on in my life/with my chronic illness. I think it helps put into perspective the reality we all live in.
@mttaggart@zoiundeinhorn indeed. I guess that’s why it feels so nice to have others who suffer from that feeling be open about it and share statements like “today i haven’t done anything useful”, because we can relate.
@mttaggart Hear, hear. And most people are only showing their successes, rarely the struggles and failures that got them to whatever success they're posting.
@mttaggart Leaving twitter the fall was a great reset in how I engage in social media, everyone has their own pace. Not to minimize people’s experience if they are still trying to find a place they feels welcoming.
