    @rooster I have a good friend with a PhD, who has established skills and long experience in coding, counseling, and leadership, and who is a successful published author, and yet who is doing the same as you right now but in her mid-fifties. It breaks my heart to see it happening to you both. 😔

    @rooster Can relate.
    FWIW, I've given up on having an overarching plan; I'm just sticking with the wayfinding thing and throwing myself into whatever seems like the best way at the time.

    That got me into and through a 23-year career, so it seems to work OK.

    @rooster Reinventing ourselves every few years is the new norm. For better or worse, the old days of ‘becoming established’ are gone, more for some (sadly) than others.

    But if you’ve had the life experience, discipline and smarts to have multiple degrees and military experience, chances are that you have the skills already to execute this turn well. You got this! 👍🏽

    @rooster oof, not as many degrees, but similar with the lots of experience side, even speaking three languages....and it seemed impossible last year to get anywhere. The despair is awful.

    Having to start life over again in our 30s or later is something so many of us are having to do and so few extend us understanding.

    Also, fuck those assholes in the earholes. You deserve so much more. And the system we live in is so fucking upside down

    @rooster thinking about this, one of the things I've noticed for me is that many of the people making hiring decisions often haven't experienced things widely and some are not very imaginative. So they look at a complicated resume with diverse areas of experience and it's not intelligible to them, even if you're a great candidate. And they tend to hire people who aren't always the best but whose narrative is easier for them personally to make sense of.

    ...this makes me think the next time I look for a job, I should figure out how to present the story of my resume to be easily understood to the most boring common denominator.

    ...or I'm just overthinking and griping here in your mentions 😅
