If all you recall of this album is the charmingly goofy "She Don't Use Jelly", please reacquaint yourself with one of the best psych rock albums of the early 90s. Unhinged lyrics and layers of absolutely massive guitars can't cover the underlying sweetness of the songs. It's like someone hired a punk band for the sock hop, dosed the punch, and in the end, everyone finds the cool Jesus.

@wobs That's a very good album in a run of very good albums! I prefer the previous one (Hit to Death in the Future Head) and the following one (Clouds Taste Metallic) but you can't go wrong with any of them and they're all worth checking out for fans of weird, noisy psychedelic rock and pop. Probably their greatest run even tho their later albums are more universally beloved and critically regarded.

@etherdiver The Lips were best when they were "just" a rock band and when Ronald Jones was there. I'm with you on your preferences for Hit to Death and Clouds - Moth in the Incubator just happened to come up on shuffle on the way home and I felt like I needed to take the whole ride with Transmissions!

@wobs LOL they're definitely that kind of band...hear one song and bang, now you gotta hear the whole album

@etherdiver @wobs Ah, the Flaming Lips! I was hooked when I first heard "Everything's Explodin'" on cassette!

Saw the Ronald Jones lineup blow fuses playing a show in a tiny bar.

Peak live moments later on include some killer renditions of Lightning Strikes the Postman.

@_slotek_ @etherdiver @wobs Now I guess I'm a heretic but for my money Embryonic and At War with the Mystics get the most play chez moi. The first tune I heard of theirs that I truly fell in love with was Pompeii Am Gotterdamering. It gives me the chills even yet. But what first really got my attention was the shattering rhythm section. I went back and listened to the old stuff and loved it too, but sentimentally, War is still my great love of theirs.

@KateOfMind @_slotek_ @wobs hey it's music, there's no wrong answers! It all depends on what you like and what the music means to you.
