Well I just ordered myself one of these...a DSM Humboldt Electronics Simplifier DLX

_slotek_,

@samvarma @Theblueone Nice! Have not heard one yet. Eager to hear your impressions. Was seeking a Fender tone and considered one but got an ACS1 instead after A/B-ing with an Iridium.

@_slotek_@mastodon.social avatar

@samvarma @Theblueone The UAD Super Lead pedal is very tempting. I hope they do a JTM45 next! I love that tone and the only pedal I have that comes close is the ZVex Distortron (which I adore).

    @SpaceAce @flockofnazguls Gnome must be configured to automatically mount CDs as virtual file systems. There must be a way to unmount the disc from the UI. If not, try doing so with the ‘gio’ command line tool.

    https://superuser.com/questions/1627938/mounting-an-audio-cd-in-a-linux-terminal-or-in-a-bash-script

    @_slotek_@mastodon.social avatar

    @SpaceAce @flockofnazguls I don’t know why cdparanoia autosense is failing if gio unmount truly succeeded (check with gio list).

    Looks like you can configure auto mounting media under the Natilus file manager options BTW.

    (I rip with XLD under macOS)

    I want to see absolutely no sensible and practical advice here. What programming language should I start vaguely and in a chill way teaching myself if I just want to experience something fun or elegant or interesting in and of itself, assuming I have no goal for using it to do anything really (outside of learning)

    Went to see my first movie in a theater in 6 months, and I'm confident we did it safely. We waited until COVID had declined ~85% in our area. Then we bought tickets the 6th week Dune 2 was released for a noon Sunday showing. Outcome:

    Only one other person in the 180-seat theater. I had my CO2 monitor, and it never went above a safe 500 ppm. (Outdoor air is just 400 ppm.) There's never a guarantee--everyone has to assess their risks and make decisions--but I loved the movie and am glad we went.

    _slotek_,
    @_slotek_@mastodon.social avatar

    @augieray Glad you were able to get out safely and see the film. I'm looking forward to the Dune 2 premiere on AppleTV this week!

    People learn nothing from the pandemic. It's a lovely 60° day in Milwaukee, so I spent the afternoon enjoying a couple of beers with my spouse. We visited bars that could have had their windows open, but didn't. Almost none had patio/outdoor tables set up. And the few that did have outdoor tables had nobody sitting outside (except us). Everyone was indoors, in terrible crowds, on a beautiful afternoon. Make it make sense.

    _slotek_,

    @augieray Relaxing on a patio in fine weather at a pub with both beer and elbow room on tap sounds rather lovely, TBH!

    @_slotek_@mastodon.social avatar

    @ambergrey Open G for Floyd’s Fearless, Zeppelin’s Dancing Days, and most Stones songs! Open D for Street Fighting Man and Bron Y-aur Stomp. Open E for Gimme Shelter. DADGAD for Black Mountain Side. DADGBD capo 2 for Neil’s Ride My Llama. Open C for Friends. Love ‘em all!

    If all you recall of this album is the charmingly goofy "She Don't Use Jelly", please reacquaint yourself with one of the best psych rock albums of the early 90s. Unhinged lyrics and layers of absolutely massive guitars can't cover the underlying sweetness of the songs. It's like someone hired a punk band for the sock hop, dosed the punch, and in the end, everyone finds the cool Jesus.

    Saw the Ronald Jones lineup blow fuses playing a show in a tiny bar.

    Peak live moments later on include some killer renditions of Lightning Strikes the Postman.

    I criticized the White House for having stricter rules on precautions than the CDC recommended for other Americans. Now, the White House is dropping its rules, as well. I have mixed feelings about this.

    One hand: It's fair that the White House is no more or less protected than everyone else.

    Other hand: POTUS is an 81-year-old man fighting to win the most important election of our lifetimes. If he gets seriously ill, it will have generational ramifications.

    Funny - where I want to be seems magical, where I am seems ordinary, and when I get somewhere I want to be, it is still ordinary.
    Maybe my sense of wonder is dampened by a lack of selective serotonin reuptake inhibition?
