It is not going to be JUST the 737 Max or 737s. Think about it. The policies were in place for all aircraft.

Southwest Airlines Plane Loses Engine Cover During Takeoff | HuffPost Latest News https://www.huffpost.com/entry/southwest-flight-engine-cover-emergency-landing_n_6612f8b6e4b0d81853f99d9a

@noondlyt it's systemic. I appreciate that the VP of 737 got walked out the building but the beans are winning.

It's actually worse on the mil/aero side where they've admitted they can't do fixed-price contracts ~ they rely on stuff like SLS where the government prints money

(they're hemorrhaging on the new AF1 and AF tanker too)

This is a Southwest maintenance issue. By this point in the life of the aircraft, that engine cover would have been removed and replaced many times.

Southwest had another issue recently.

So it's the aeroplane manufacturers AND the airlines that are cutting safety for increased profits. 🤦‍♂️

Worship of the quarterly bottom line is the killer. That was a legacy of Harvard Business School.

Thank you. Very true. But also, SW is supported and informed by Boeing maintenance engineers. It's not like they are operating in a vacuum. Did SW ignore safety bulletins? Or did Boeing fail to issue a warning? Everything is interconnected.

We don't know yet if there are parts or procedures issues. I do worry this may be a long term issue due to changes in maintenance or parts for cost issues that causes reliability issues in the long term. Either SW or Boeing could have caused it.

It's worth adding that Airbus has these things happen too, it's just usually a footnote in the news.

That doesn't mean Boeing et. al. can't, and indeed should, do better.

@olav @Eka_FOOF_A @ralfmaximus I think it may be industry wide

Would not surprise me.

@olav
Why is this bringing up questions of who wants Boeing to fail, or is this just a convenient distraction to obsess over to distract away from TFG's antics? @ralfmaximus @noondlyt

Ultimately the news cares about eyeballs and whatever gets clicks even if their reporting is evil.

No, it's really to steer the discourse of the nation, control the sheep.
