How hard is it to get one of those annual licenses for jaws? I have not changed my mind about wanting one, even if it is for one piece of software. Who knows, I might actually end up liking it. While I have your attention, let me ask you this, Which screen reader has better touchscreen support? I have the touchscreen and I’m going to use it.

DavidGoldfield,

@evilcookies98 Purchasing and installing the JAWS Home Annual License couldn't be easier. I wrote a blog post several years ago where I talk about this. https://davidgoldfield.wordpress.com/2018/11/04/along-with-nvda-im-also-using-jaws-2019-heres-why/

@DavidGoldfield oh, so it's basically like what I did the year I got for free when I was in college. When everything went online, they gave students a free year and even though I didn't use Jaws very much, I took advantage of it in case something were to come up that made me need it. At the time. I did not like the thing because my keyboard made me have to turn into an octopus just to press half the keystrokes.

@evilcookies98 @DavidGoldfield The evil chocolate octopus.

DavidGoldfield,

@pixelate @evilcookies98 You can also use the JAWS Keyboard Manager to add functions to additional keystrokes that are more convenient for you.

@pixelate @DavidGoldfield it won’t be a problem now that I have a full keyboard and a computer that isn’t a Bootcamped Mac. I don’t think Jaws likes those very much.

jimoneill12,

@evilcookies98 Ivanka, Touch screens are not easy to work with. just download a demo copy of jaws try it before you spend the money. That would be the best way to make an informed decision. good luck.

@jimoneill12 I don’t mind touchscreens personally. Just never had one on a computer before three weeks ago.

ChrisDuffley,

@evilcookies98 I've seen JAWS be better. But who knows. NVDA does have TS support though and SPL does have its own touch mode.

evilcookies98,

@ChrisDuffley I need a spare in case NVDA doesn't like something.

ChrisDuffley,

@evilcookies98 The JAWS scripts are about to go annual subscription because of the inflation and crap and the rest. Argh...

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@ChrisDuffley still reasonable though from what I read.

ChrisDuffley,

@evilcookies98 Yes. Very much so.

@ChrisDuffley what I saw in that announcement was an example of exactly how things should be handled.

rooktallon,

@evilcookies98 I can answer the first question. It's pretty easy. Just search up Freedom Scientific Licensing portal and then create an account and buy it, it should download a file that both installs and activates JAWS for you.

@rooktallon not bad at all. I need a back up, and I don’t think narrator is going to cut it. Has it gotten better, yes. Is it still very very far behind everything else, also yes.

gocu54,

@evilcookies98 Not hard at all. My brother @rook can tell you how.

@gocu54 it’ll be a while before I’m actually able to do it, but my mind is made up on the matter.
