I miss native apps. Those snappy little motherfuckers that stated quickly, did the thing and didn't bring massive rendering engines and associated RAM cost with them.
@tante I miss native apps, too. One of my favorite apps in the Apple Universe is Bear Notes - it’s small, lean, fast, never messes up - absolute bliss to work with.
Sadly, native apps are way more difficult to make than a sub-standard web app that you just dress in an Electron shell. This wasn’t the case when I began programming. Back in the day, you could build small desktop apps in mere minutes. I was having the best programming time of my life putting things together with Delphi.
Both. Developers do have to maintain multiple languages or use crappy cross compiling.
Usage: PWAs are standardised, update themselves, do not have a store bottleneck maintained by big companies with restrictive rule sets and are usable on every device and every architecture that runs a browser.
