That whole "explain it as if to your mother", or "to a housewife" bit?

It's never been acceptable.

Brilliant women who have done brilliant work have been forced into "housewife" roles for ages.

Julia Child was just one of the most famous ones, in recent history.

Thankfully, for all of us, she found a path that society accepted and embraced.

@kristinHenry i have never heard this phrase. it's nearly universally "explain it so a child can understand it". I'm sure there are others, and some people might use the housewife as a derogatory (like, the government, the medical establishment, and so on.)

Seriously? I saw a variation on this in an ad just today: "so easy to install, a housewife can install it".
