@flexghost Trump is a con man, traitor and crook and the NYTimes is obsessed with printing articles in his support. Even fact based articles on Trump’s four criminal indictments are littered with made up positive slants. Today, The NYTimes is reporting that President Biden is gaining on Trumps one percentage lead of voters who favor Trump in November. Rarely, will President Biden’s positive economic and social record in the past four years have front page coverage.
@flexghost I wonder if it has occurred to them that if they get their wish and Trump is elected, he’ll shut down the free press and jail their reporters.
@TransitBiker honestly I think there has been a case to say it has been a propaganda mouthpiece for almost a decade but absolutely terrible in the past couple years
@MattMerk you can’t unring a bell. Many major media outlets have been using headlines to put positive messages in favor of Trump out there in the mind of people
@flexghost And people thought me a nut when I'd cite Chomsky. Now it's pretty inarguable he was always right about the whole manufacturing consent thing.
In the original Star Trek TV series there was the episode where everyone had an evil doppelganger in another dimension. I fear that's the dimension we all live in.
@MattMerk@flexghost Manufacturing Consent was not about internal partisan politics in the United States; Chomsky didn't vote in presidential elections until (I believe) 2004. It was more "whyyyyy does the media keep saying there's a genocide in Cambodia, they're just trying to discredit socialism, why aren't they talking about Chile more?".
@Alon@flexghost The great thing about mansplainer types is their stunning level of self confidence in their bullshit. Your reply reads like a ChatGPT hallucination.
So, not only did you miss the point in my post, you did so in such a fantastically large way. you leave me wondering if you’ve even read the book I mentioned—a book very specifically about the propagandistic nature of U.S. News Media (of which the New York Times is a participant).
@flexghost what they are remembering is Obama’s effect on the economy. I understand their confusion though because Donnie did repeatedly take credit for it before destroying it with his massive tax cuts for the rich.
@flexghost when I look back, I see a divisiveness that I had never seen before ANYWHERE in the world I’ve been. A very dangerous divisiveness too. I saw the politicization of just about every aspect of daily life, and the absurd uses of the word ‘patriot’ as well as the flag. That’s just what enters my mind giving the NYT screen shot above a quick thought.
@flexghost I am not someone who is a beneficiary of generational wealth, but if I was, I would be very nervous of a potential dictator, who desires to do to the US, what Putin has done to Russia. At the very least I would move to a ground floor apartment.
People have a tendency to forget the bad times. It's easier to be "upset" with CURRENT issues than try & recall everything we tried so hard to forget.
When "Dubya" was president, I was looking through my copy of "The Prophecies of #Nostradamus" to see if he was the #antichrist. 12 years later, the Obama's are giving him hugs on live TV.
BEFORE #Covid, Mango was "falling in love" w/Kim, siding with #Putin over U.S. intel, and grifting emoluments.
