Pwnallthethings,

Disney sending the lawyers down to the mouse vault to use their tiny hammer to break the "find out" glass and go for the governor lololol, extremely here for this

Pwnallthethings,

The governor says this wasn't retaliatory legislation for our first amendment activities, but please see here his memoir where he says "this legislation was in retaliation for their speech" ... just A+

sleepy,

@Pwnallthethings well i mean it's also just a delay tactic. ‘We're sick of this shit, so we're going to file in court and wait and see if we don't get a better governor to deal with once you're out of office.’

That_AC,
rateexportpilot,

@Pwnallthethings this is one of those things that seemed like such a cut and dried 1A & abuse of power issue that I've been convinced I'm missing something - like one of those Popehat explainers that explains how something can be truly awful, but not technically a 1A issue.

I can't help but speculate that DeSantis is banking on the RW SCOTUS to back him up—or maybe he just isn't thinking that far ahead

Pwnallthethings,

@cavyherd @rateexportpilot He doesn't actually care. He just wanted to use it as a platform to get the national nomination (which he also won't get, but that's a separate thing)

Okay 😳 that's a level of gamesmanship I didn't have on my bingo card. Yikes.

@Pwnallthethings I am not immune to the feelings of mirth over this but it’s tempered greatly by the knowledge of who will be paying all the expenses to litigate this. It ain’t DeSantis and his ilk. I have some real dread for an escalation of right wing efforts to do their campaigning with these stunts. Why would they stop? The eventual loss doesn’t cost them a penny (woohoo qualified immunity!) and it gets a ton of messaging and base-pandering.

@Pwnallthethings Man! Are we ever lucky our fascists are so dimwitted.

@Pwnallthethings Perfect turn of events. 10/10, no comments.

pattykimura,

@Pwnallthethings DeSantis said the quiet (retaliatory) part out loud, because he meant it. He's an attorney, he did it on purpose because he's gambling it will make him appear the actualized Trump, and prove his fascist bona-fides. He doesn't care if he loses in against a "woke" corporation, it costs him nothing, personally. He likes using his Governor position to pay his legal and travel bills.

kentborg,

@Pwnallthethings It is so strange to be cheering for Disney's lawyers, and hoping I'm right when I assume they are much better than Ron's. But here I am.

    @thepoliticalcat @Pwnallthethings

    Disney's lawyers don't play.

Attorneys wake up in a cold sweat from nightmares of facing Disney in a courtroom.

    Pwnallthethings,

@unixorn @thepoliticalcat Depends on the topic area, but generally yes. Disney has good lawyers, good lobbyists, lots of money, and tons of leverage thanks to their massive content platforms, and these in combination are extremely formidable.

@Pwnallthethings wow, one of the rare stories where Disney isn't the villain
