I’d really rather be posting about the 2024 elections and climate news and other things I enjoy but since the Fediverse just gets more and more comfortable with Jew hatred, not less, and people stay dead silent about it, this is where it is.
@TonyStark I wish more people would wake up and realize that they are being manipulated. So many people assume that they are 'too smart to fall for it' - and they just aren't.
"Even you Alex!" they'll say to which I have my response already formulated.
"Yes, even me. Please be critical and don't let people/companies/governments manipulate you."
@mentallyalex I just want to be clear for anyone reading that I am not being manipulated when calling out Jew hatred on this platform and I honestly at this point think people perpetrating and tolerating it know what they’re doing. Maybe they should stop being manipulated and take responsibility if that’s what’s happening. But mostly it seems like what they want to do it and tolerate if not flatly encourage it. And lots of people just stay quiet. Maybe that sounds familiar. It does to me.

The people who are suddenly okay with certain types of hate. I have seen people arguing against Jews and I just... it's so weird.
People who I thought were safe or fun or seemingly... okay.. and they'll start sharing links and memes that are so clearly slanted. This place used to be a lot more friendly.
@TonyStark@mentallyalex I dont 'hate' anyone, but I'll say I REALLY despise Jews who hate Palestinians as much as I despise Palestinians who hate Jews, etc...
I'll also say that nuttin-yahoo is a madman and he does NOT represent the Jewish people, nor even the totality of Israel.
The protests largely are against nuttin-yahoo and the murderous IDF. If they do not state this clearly; then that's their bad. If they chant death to "xx"; their bad. If they celebrate murder; their bad.
@axeshun@mentallyalex Nobody is discussing protests here. I’m speaking about Fediverse antisemitism. Part of the problem is that anyone mentions a Jew or a Jew speaks, someone brings up Netanyahu. Not super helpful.
@TonyStark@mentallyalex I disagree. I believe this entire flare up of antisemitic and 'pro-hamas' rhetoric is a direct result of the repercussions of the Oct 7th hamas slayings and kidnapping and bibi's massively disproportionate and untethered response.
Most people are disgusted with the Israeli leadership. Even many Israeli citizens.
But as always, great ignorance prevails and 'Israel=Jews so they all must want to obliterate an entire population'. From there, even more ignorance permeates.
We had them especially after, too. On walls, on the playground, once in the mulch. (Creative nazis!) I didn’t do that but I did help a rabbi who works with the local interfaith church organize a beautiful support rally in 2016 with my state congressperson. I still have the sign in my window which I’ll snap when I get back there.
@TonyStark@mentallyalex look. We agree on most everything, but if we differ here, then so be it.
But, I'm for protecting Jews, Palestinians, Ethiopians...whomever.
Please don't let small disagreements amongst allies become dividing lines.

@axeshun@mentallyalex Literally not dividing anyone. Just explaining what my original post is and that Netanyahu doesn’t need brought up every single time. I’m sure people who aren’t Jewish don’t get it, but I’m personally tired of posts of bread, my kid, environmental news, etc. always coming back to that. Seems like one post to you- hundreds for me.

@axeshun when I hear antisemitism is somehow due to some particular event in time (current Gaza war, May 21, etc etc) or somehow the fault of some particularly bad Jew (Madoff, Netanyahu, etc etc) I roll my eyes. It just isn't accurate.
Antisemitism is caused by antisemites. Everything else is a distraction. It isn't new. It's cyclical. It's transhistoric. It's conspiracy based. It's adaptable to changing circumstances.
That isn't a critique of the protests. The Judenhass we see in the protests is indicative of the criteria I just listed not due to some shit Israel did. And while I believe it's endemic on the left and right it also isn't the main reason people are protesting.
So it's important to be able to make these crisp distinctions in analysis and not dissappear them in a false narrative even if it's neat and convenient.

I pride myself on desperately maintaining not habitually being in 100% agreement with anyone before knowing all the facts, and simply following blindly.
Our 'differences' here, are purely my ignorance of the actual issue you're speaking of due to my own in-exposure.

I don’t want to derail your otherwise well meaning posts, but I disagree with some of the generalized statements here in a number of ways. But I’m not going to tangent with those points because they are actually about policy and government, particularly Israeli war cabinet and armed forces structure, and not antisemitism.
On THAT issue, you would be extremely hard pressed to find diaspora Jews (or even many Israelis) that are fans of Ben Gvir and Smoltrich (both of whom represent extremely small slivers of Israeli society but have an outsized voice because of the fragile Knesset composition), which are the types of Knesset members you are talking about. I’d also add that I’m not fan of Bibi, but he’s not the madman you make him out to be. He’s corrupt. And he’s a survivor through avoiding making hard decisions that put his coalition at risk. Those of us familiar with Israeli politics see it all the time. Don’t believe the cartoonish takes of parachute journalists.
@TonyStark We had a dozen or so people arrested on U of Ga. campus for setting up tents in unapproved areas and blocking sidewalks downtown. Turns out none of them are UGA students. These are orchestrated "protests" by foreign agents' goal is to divide America and put Trump back into the WH, which gives Gaza to Israel, Ukraine to RU, destroys NATO and the U.S.
MSM is aiding them.
It's about usurping land for money and power, as Jared Kushner told us 2 weeks ago.
@EarthOne24 It stuns me that the same people who have been here for years with the understanding that the MSM is misleading is in general (with Trump, with “caravans” of immigrants, etc, are now falling for their same old bs. Unreal. They’re never on the side of democracy.
