The Rector of the University of Glasgow, a Palestinian witness to war crimes, is now banned from entering both Germany and France and, it would seem, the whole of Europe.

@alanferrier
Abu Sittka has been banned from political activity in Germany for some time now.
Against court orders he issued political statements and praised the october terrorist attack, thus forfeiting guest privileges.

@alanferrier
Regarding "political activity": that’s a nice / circumspect wording for inciting hate crime and supporting terrorist activity. Both major crimes, which he probably would be arrested and jailed for if he were (allowed) to enter the country.

So disallowing entry simply is crime prevention, as he did not show any restraint in the past, resulting (among others) in cancellation of a conference which borderlined to complicity due to hosting his praise of the attacks.

@alanferrier He celebrated the 7th of October and praised terrorists.

@Aliceenligne @alanferrier The part where Ghassan Abu Sitta blames Germany for not being allowed into France is especially disgusting, to the point of anti-Semitism. Gérald Darmanin, the guy who is shocked by ethnic food aisles at supermarkets, doesn't need Germany as an excuse not to let an Arab Muslim enter France. The complaints about Germany are just complaints that anti-Semitic violence is not normalized here.

Wynter,

@Alon @Aliceenligne @alanferrier

By way of comparison, no Israeli has ever been banned from Europe for praising Yitzhak Shamir, whose organization Lehi, a self-described terrorist group, was far more brutal than the PFLP ever was.

Alon,
@Alon@mastodon.social avatar

@Wynter @Aliceenligne @alanferrier An Israeli who is this effusive about Kahane does not get invited to the BBC to comment on the war as a reliable witness.

Shamir did a lot of things in the decades after he was a terrorist. For the same reason, Obama's ties to Bill Ayers after Ayers stopped doing terrorism didn't doom his presidential campaign and were only a minor scandal. (Among the Palestinians, the equivalent is Arafat, who transitioned out of terrorism into civilian leadership.)

@alanferrier this shit is so fucked. How can Germany even do that?

hypolite,

@liaizon @alanferrier That’s a benefit and drawback of the Schengen space. You’re free to go through it once you’re in, but apparently any country can refuse entry no matter where from.

twit_terrorist,
@twit_terrorist@mastodont.cat avatar

@liaizon @alanferrier I wonder too why Germany would side with a country committing a genocide.

hypolite,

@twit_terrorist @liaizon @alanferrier It's a complicated topic regarding Germany's history but long story short is that they'd rather side with Israel no matter what, even against Jewish voices.

@aintasenatorson@retro.pizza avatar

@liaizon @alanferrier Tbh, I don't think that Germany can do that.
Not that I am implying that that gentleman is lying, I find the likeliest that it's the French who are lying here.

hypolite,

@aintasenatorson @liaizon @alanferrier Are you aware of the Schengen space?

aintasenatorson,
@aintasenatorson@retro.pizza avatar

@hypolite @liaizon @alanferrier to not get my foot in my mouth again, I checked how an entry ban applies in the schengen area, and yeah, I will retract and delete my comment up there.
I already had a lot of grievances with the whole EU structure and apparatus, and this just adds to it. So any member state can arbitrarily and unilaterally ban someone, and everyone else has to comply.
Europe was a mistake and must be destroyed, indeed.

@aintasenatorson @hypolite @liaizon @alanferrier I'm old enough to know Europe without Schengen (and a lot of other EU benefits ranging from no war to no mobile roaming fees). Trust me, the EU is the best thing since sliced bread. 🇪🇺

Wow, the Palestinians are an actual sacrifice.
