So I've always cooked with a little MSR backpacking stove, but I got a little solar panel and battery for this car trip and holy cow it's really powerful! Been wondering if you could drop the stove and use an induction cooktop instead.

Bringing a liter of water from 40 to 210 F is about 110 Wh, and takes about 3.5 minutes with a 2 kW heater. The Jackery 1000 can do that, and you could manage daily cooking for two with... Maybe 3 peak hours per day w/a 200 watt panel?

My dream is to run the car off of solar, cuz I'm constantly saying "well it would be nice to do that little 30 mile day trip but we don't have the charge to do it, and the nearest station is 100 miles away". But I just don't see how it's possible to charge a 3 mi/kWh car off a reasonable portable solar setup. Ten of these 100 W panels would take, like... Ten days of full sun, all day long, to recharge the car.

@aphyr you don't need to be at 100% charge to do a 30 mile day trip though, right?
