A 600dB truck horn, for when you need to deafen God from across the universe https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006139224416.html

@phs it’s a small price to pay to deafen God herself

@jpm At last, a worthy successor to the Lyre of Orpheus.

@ThermiteBeGiants @jpm I’m picturing installing this on my motorbike but having to add extra padding so that I don’t liquefy myself through the seat

liamvhogan,
@liamvhogan@aus.social avatar

@ThermiteBeGiants @jpm also isn’t there a theoretical limit to decibels relating to the atmosphere, topping out at like 190dB where it’s ‘noise of a Saturn rocket engine’

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@liamvhogan @ThermiteBeGiants you’d think so, but apparently not

liamvhogan,
@liamvhogan@aus.social avatar

@jpm @ThermiteBeGiants I was right, it’s logarithmic, apparently every 10dB is an order of magnitude greater, and Saturn V was ~205dB. So maybe the 12v horn is that much mathematically louder than the Apollo rockets but probably it’s not

@liamvhogan @ThermiteBeGiants yes, dB is logarithmic, however the logarithmic units are not specified. They might be dB(gnat fart)

@jpm I kind of want to order one, and then ask for a refund when it doesn't destroy windows for a kilometre around

@jpm dB is a logarithmic scale. Every 3dB is double the energy. A plane taking off is about 130dB, and there are about 170 energy doublings to get to 600 dB. I'm guessing the energy of a 600 dB horn would be like a super nova ;-)

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@wall0159 luckily they did not specify what units in dB, for all we know 0dB could be the energy required to move a hydrogen atom 1 Planck length

wall0159,
@wall0159@aus.social avatar

@jpm that's a good point - I didn't think of that!

Though I wonder what 200 doublings of moving a hydrogen atom would be..?

@wall0159 still a lot
