ADHD meds end of week 2 note.

My whole sense of time is different.

I don't come home from work, do a few amusing things then oh shit it's midnight, time to sleep. It's fit in a whole evening of visiting family, bun time, reading, catching up with folk online, and it's only 10:20pm and it feels like a normal whole weekend's already fit in. Free time used to fly by, now it's savoured fully.

Also medicaiton still way variable and peaky, but may change Monday.

@NanoRaptor

I seriously need to try what you're taking. My Strattera has totally flatlined. I literally just hopped in my car last night and DROVE DUE NORTH with Kylie Minogue blasting in my stereo. (Not my usual music selection, lol)
Total dopamine zero. Ugh.

@NanoRaptor Reading your posts about ADHD meds has me really wanting to finally get a diagnosis so I can get medicated. Which of course I'm gonna have to fight ADHD to get done. Dx

NanoRaptor,

@websterleone Excellent! And yes. That's the absurd bit (apart from all the other absurd bits, but perhaps that especially)

@NanoRaptor I fin your description of what's happening extremely interesting. Also, important. Thanks for doing that!

NanoRaptor,

@Zyfdnug It's only folk who did similar that got me to take it seriously!

Near everything else I'd read was written from the point of view of non-ADHD folk talking about their experiences of watching kids or relatives changing and not being the same person after.

@NanoRaptor kinda jeallous, for me the extent of the effects are “it helps me focus on things and fixes my executive dysfunction (to a certain degree)”

still, really happy that it works so well for you :) remember to take breaks every few weeks, else it stops being as effective

@domi @NanoRaptor I'm in the same boat, and I admit a certain kind of envy seeing Dana's immediate and dramatic response. But I'll take "being able to get my damn work done" over nothing. ;)

@domi@donotsta.re avatar

@noelle @NanoRaptor yeah! at this point i’m not even envious - i’m happy as heck for the people where it works so much better, but I’m accepting that it’s not a competition, and there are so many external factors

if I was in better health in general, it would probably work better too. simple as that

NanoRaptor,
@NanoRaptor@bitbang.social avatar

@domi @noelle Goodness, yeah, there are some strange multiplier effects going on - like being just a little bit down in sleep on dex is REALLY hard. Feels like I've pulled two allnighters in row if I missed just a couple hours the night before.

noelle,
@noelle@chat.noelle.codes avatar

@NanoRaptor @domi Oh, speaking of multipliers - I bring this up because many doctors don't, often because they don't know - citric acid is a strong inhibitor of amphetamine-based ADHD meds like Adderall. If you're not seeing the effect you want, and you're eating oranges, drinking soda, etc. within about an hour of taking your meds, you might try cutting those out around med time to see if it makes a difference.

NanoRaptor,
@NanoRaptor@bitbang.social avatar

@noelle @domi Oh! Is there a link with tomatoes too, or just citric acid especially? I had a thought that the two times the morning dose didn't really seem to kick in much were ones I had a big old mass of tomato for breakfast. Not enough for more than a "huh, I wonder..." but if others had experience....

NanoRaptor,
@NanoRaptor@bitbang.social avatar

@domi Gods, the invisible executive function boost is weird. It's like some things that I always intended just happen automatically. I haven't used the kitchen for a week now without tidying as I go without thinking.

Feels like cheatcodes!

@NanoRaptor @domi its Conan (the Barbarian) growing up on the Wheel of Pain: once you are cut loose anything else you come across is easy peasy

NanoRaptor,
@NanoRaptor@bitbang.social avatar

@flyingsaceur @domi That might be part of my really good results, in a way.

I had an epiphany moment in 2009, an Eckhart Tolle moment, where everything suddenly changed. More than a decade of anxiety/depression just washed away. It's one of those life-changing moments, but I think was also a really good prep for these last couple of weeks.

Allowing the medication a great bedrock to start with.

@NanoRaptor re: peaky meds: talk with your doc about it, see if there is the same medication from a different manufacturer

NanoRaptor,

@JennyFluff Aye, I'm still on my first test doses of a non slow release atm. Next appointment is monday for an adjustment followup.
