I don’t have dark skies anymore, but if you do, and have clear skies, keep an eye on the night this weekend. A G3/G4 solar storm is predicted this weekend. That could spark Aurora all the way down to the southern US.

@NunavutBirder I just went outside to bring the dogs to the stable for the night. And was surprised by a very red sky. Too red for a wildfire.
Then I read this and - yes I've seen the first aurora in my life. We're more or less on the same latitude like NYC.

@sibylle awesome

@NunavutBirder I wish I were in Alaska now-this will be totally visible there but not Maine!
The prediction is for the Upper Midwest to have visibility but not much further. If you look at the maps the arc is narrow.

@fmhilton predictions are right down to Alabama

@NunavutBirder skies usually offer a good view of the Milky Way here but unfortunately it's cloudy and raining. It seems to cloud up as soon as there's a chance of a celestials event.

@old_hippie It’s the law.

@NunavutBirder
Back in the last century, during the 90s, there was a storm that made the aurora visible in Austin, Texas, where I lived at the time. It was amazing.

@dougiec3 Looks like it may happen again.

@NunavutBirder I dont know if its good or bad, but this exactly seems like Hollywood when aliens have to come down just in the right place and city in US.

@NunavutBirder I'm a little sad to learn you don't have dark skies anymore. :(

NunavutBirder,
@NunavutBirder@mas.to avatar

@WolfIsMe I’m happy for the light.

@NunavutBirder Waaaaiiit. I just realized. It's not that you don't have dark skies because of street lights or city lights. It's because you're in Nunavut. The skies are bright all day!

I was just thinking about Utqiagvik, when I had this realization. I'm slow, I know. :D

@WolfIsMe Yes, exactly. The sun won’t set until August. Even then it’ll be 24 hour light for a couple of weeks.
