remember when trump said if we just stop testing for covid it would go away as if by a miracle and everyone thought that was a scandalously stupid thing to say

on an entirely unrelated note since 3 weeks ago the CDC no longer requires hospitals to report covid hospitalizations and now biobot is no longer showing covid wastewater data for the US

@eniko People kept saying that with Biden in office, we'd finally have support for reasonable public health policies. Instead we got public declarations that COVID was over, and liberals joined conservatives in rejecting masking and other precautions.

@foolishowl pretty much

@eniko It's been fascinating watching Biden basically repeat Trump's covid approach and get praised for it. He's botched this thing so bad. It's infuriating.

@eniko It is an election year, he has to freshen up on fucking things up worse that were already at least half fumbles since the relief checks to contrast how great he is.

@eniko fuck. Biobot must've just shut that down. I check it every monday

@eniko Biobot lost the National Wastewater Surveillance System contract to an Alphabet/Google subsidiary called Verily in September, but there was a transition period.

@JTO_is_Typing last I checked, verily sucks. Have to look again I guess

@qkslvrwolf I didn't find Biobot until after the contract expired, so I couldn't compare number of reporting sites before and after, but they had some big gaps in the Midwest. Illinois only had 2 counties working with them, neither of which were anywhere near the most populous.

Meanwhile, the City of Chicago's Microsoft Power BI graphs may be part of the "abundance" of publicly available wastewater data the Biobot blog mentions, but they don't show the full dates on the data points anymore.

@JTO_is_Typing Unfortunately, biobot had like 3 sample sites in my county and the replacements have 0.

The nearest sample sites are 110 miles away. Totally useless for me.
