Which curry crime from this recipe is your fave?

@jpm there is no crime, this is good

@jpm I voted Apple, but really they are all crimes.

I remember vividly the first time I discussed recipes with an Indian friend, after I'd moved to the city for uni. She was horrified to hear we basically just put Keen'scurry powder into a white sauce and called it curry.

I am partial to the white girl curry occasionally, but I'm glad my culinary horizons have broadened.

midofo,

@jpm oh wait, I read that wrong

@jpm this looks like a crime against food.

@jpm no sultanas?

Hotchipsandmayo,

@jpm My Nan who was the world's worst cook still made a better version of curried sausages than this (but yes she did put apples in).

@jpm I don’t remember it being that yellow

    @jpm I still have those recipes cards stored at the back of the pantry. 😄

    jpm,
    @jpm@aus.social avatar

    @mike_t143 we have the entire boxed set!

    mike_t143,
    @mike_t143@aus.social avatar

    @jpm same, in a plastic flip lid box.

    jpm,
    @jpm@aus.social avatar

    @mike_t143 this one?

    @mike_t143@aus.social avatar

    @jpm woman's weekly recipe card too! Double 70s bonus

    jpm,
    @jpm@aus.social avatar

    @Ex_spurt the boxed set is a collector’s item now

    Ex_spurt,
    @Ex_spurt@aus.social avatar

    @jpm OMG, my ex had the boxed set and when we split up I pinched the one with my then favourite on it. It was terrible and involved mutton chops, curry powder and a tin of mushroom soup

    jpm,
    @jpm@aus.social avatar

    @Ex_spurt oof, you really can tell 70’s food from the ingredients can’t you?

    Ex_spurt,
    @Ex_spurt@aus.social avatar

    @jpm fucking horrendous. I bet it's got apricot chicken in there too

    jpm,
    @jpm@aus.social avatar

    @Ex_spurt likely. Bets on whether it uses dried or tinned apricots?

    Ex_spurt,
    @Ex_spurt@aus.social avatar

    @jpm the original had a tinned syrup product called 'apricot nectar', which I think existed purely to make that recipe

    jpm,
    @jpm@aus.social avatar

    @Ex_spurt lol my mum gave me an apricot chicken recipe that uses it, but also interesting ingredients like ground coriander seed

    Ex_spurt,
    @Ex_spurt@aus.social avatar

    @jpm the nasty 70s one got all its spice from a packet of dried French onion soup mix

    jpm,
    @jpm@aus.social avatar

    @Ex_spurt an all-purpose pantry item. Cook-in-the-bag roast anyone?

    keira_reckons,
    @keira_reckons@aus.social avatar

    @jpm @Ex_spurt oh god this whole discussion has reminded me of my favourite soup when I was a kid. It had four ingredients. A supermarket roast chicken, a tin of creamed corn, water, and a jar of cream cheese.

    Because creamed cheese, like a lot of things, used to come in jars. We kept them for use as drinking glasses.

    We had those recipe cards, in that box (in the 80s).

    The Lady Friend has a partial set.

    @jpm ...I'm a late 80s kid and I was brought up on this...
